The Relic Hunters

An exciting author to read
I have yet to read this book, but am really looking forward too doing so, as I know this as an exciting author.

If you like adventure it is worth a read.
First time I have read the author. A good start to a series, with a lively group of characters. Quite violent, full of action and variety of armaments make this archaeological thriller a fast moving read. It will be interesting to see how this develops in the next book which I will look forward to reading. I hope this will have more actual relic hunting, and I doubt this will be the last we hear of the Illuminati in this series. The combination of fact/history and fiction was enjoyable to read, but the characters were a little bit over the top "super heroes" for a group of international thieves. Still I will look forward to their next adventure to see how the "family" grow and develop in their new role of legal hunters for the CIA. I will also try some of the authors other books.

I'm interested to see where this series goes...
I love the Matt Drake books, have read them all and was excited to see a new series emerging. I did enjoy this book and I can see where the series is headed but both the characters and the story are a bit clunky and don't flow - something the other series did from book one. If this team has been together for years with the addition of a couple of new people during the story, there should be a much smoother flow of understanding and conversation. The foul language is mostly gratuitous and unnecessarily (even for male readers I would think).Overall, it's a good adventure romp but didn't live up to the usual Leadbeater standard. However, I'm willing to read book 2 when it arrives and see where it goes. It's worth a read.

Good, easy reading, fun adventure novel.
I was a little busy after I read The Relic Hunters for the first time so didn’t have chance to review it. First time round i really enjoyed The Relic Hunters, really fast paced and exciting.I won’t lie, I’m a big fan of David Leadbeater and so may seem a little biased, it had very much the same vibe as his other novels, which I find really easy to read and I become quickly engrossed in. Imagine Indiana Jones crossed with The Expendables with a little bit of light hearted humour thrown in.This genre of novel usually takes itself very seriously, not The Relic Hunters, it’s fun and very easy reading, which, being a fan of this genre is a breath of fresh air. If I had to pick one problem, it’s that the dialogue doesn’t really flow as well as David’s previous novels, and I found this held the characters and flow back a little, whether this is because it’s a new series where characters still need to gain an identity from the reader is yet to be seen. Generally a fun 300ish page book to loose a few hours in.

too much banter between the key players
Probably read more of the series but the story line was a bit jaded and the interaction between the key players a bit over the top

Looking forward to the next
A new team for the creator of the Spear, Gold and Disavowed teams. I love archaeological thrillers and treasure hunts and I really like David Leadbeater as an author so I hope this new series takes off and we get to learn more about Brodie and his 'family'. As with all series starter books a lot of time is spent initially introducing the various characters, but that does not mean that there is a lack of storyline or pace. I read it in a day and will read it again so all in all a good buy.Team loyalty and feeling part of a family are a central issue in all of Davids books, but he also manages to pack in a lot of action, cars, motorbikes, water transport and a wide variety of armaments. He is also not afraid to spread the heroism between the sexes so you have very strong male and female characters with the odd weakness just so they feel a little more believable.

Ok, but could have been so much better.
Ok, but could have been better...I have read a few of David's books now and this is not one of the best he has produced. The overall storyline is very 'Hollywood' and over the top in terms of believability, however that aside, the story itself started well with some great focus on the main character Bodie, but as the chapters progressed i found the introduction of new characters glossed over too quickly and for me the author failed to produce any real chemistry between the differing characters throughout. In contrast i often found myself hoping for one of them to be written out fairly early on.As the storyline continued the main 'good guy' leads became less and less endearing and i started to hope the 'bad guys' would prevail, although again there was little to bond me to these characters either. One of the key protagonists - the central 'Hood' character, more or less dropped out of the storyline almost entirely until a brief re-appearance at the end. And the ending is what really let this book down. It was incredibly rushed, often confusing, and just too far fetched even for me (and i have some considerable tolerance to the realms of the the possible).Overall it was just about ok for a quick read. Showed some promise early on, but could have been so much more... Would it buy me into the rest of the series? Unfortunately not on this occasion.

Utter nonsense, but quite good fun to read
The problem with this story was the holes in the plot were so large you could drive a bus through. The start off premise that the 'hood' stole a document that had to be carried across the whole of Europe is so daft that even the author can't square it at the end. The Illuminati, it seems, are a bit too clever for their own good. The super elite thieves are also improbably super hero quality. I can only imagine the CIA will next want to use them to bring down China or Iran next.Unfortunately, I read this straight after The Milestone Protocol, which was a better book dealing with the same sort of James Bond style super villains (actually, The illuminati in that book are operating under a more insidious villain). It was a good fun read, if you like super hero books, but I'm not sure I'd buy the next in the series.

A Good Read
A good short read. Being the first in the series the lead characters are developed nicely supported by an exciting plot. Unfortunately left me hanging on one issue that was not resolved. It looks like I will have to read the next book to find the answer to that issue.
