It a great bullying lesson
Bought this for my son who is being bullied. Most of the book has great examples about empathy but it gets murky when it gets to the bullying example. In the book the bully learns his lesson through empathy which is great but not a safe lesson for a small child who is being bullied.

Memorable title and good examples for toddlers.
This book has been a hit with our toddler and the “You, Me, and Empathy” title is catchy! Great lessens for for 2-3 year olds.

Just what I wanted.
Loved this book. It was just what I wanted to teach my granddaughter about empathy because it gives examples of the child viewing someone with a problem, identifying with a child by remembering a time that had happened to him, and then giving an example what to do to help. I also liked that it had questions at the bottom of some of the pages like: Have you ever felt scared? What happened? Tell me about a time you had to be brave, that made it more interactive.

Very sweet and kiddo seems to be understanding the message
My 4 year old likes it and asks me to read it to her. It is nicely written in rhyming verses with simple illustrations. The discussion questions at the end of each small section are great to talk to her about being kind and being a good friend. Highly recommend.

No as good as I hoped for
I had high hopes for this book especially with all of the positive reviews. I bought it to read with my Kindergarten class. It has cute pictures and I have used it with my class but have to change some of the words. It is a series of scenarios in which a person is able to relate to the feelings of others because they have experienced the same things. Kid is sick and mom takes care of him, she is sick and he takes care of her, brother gets hurt... so far okay ( although all anyone does to help is say "there, there" A child gets knocked over by a dog and the other child tells them not to cry because the dog does not know any better...meh. A child is bullying others then get bullied himself and stops being a bully..... not a good or realistic message. The book does end well with a lesson about welcoming others. It is an okay book but not what I was hoping for.

Adorable story just right for small children
The title of this book makes it seem a little dry but it's really an adorable story, beautifully illustrated and a great introduction to empathy for small children. My 4-year-old was being less than amazing to some kids in her preschool class so I was looking to start the discussion about whey it's important to care about how others are feeling. This book was perfect. I plan to get some other books from this author as well because I have no doubt their equally good.

It is wrong about the bullies
This is a nice book, it defines empathy well and is a good starting point for talking about it with children. Everything is age appropriate. There are two bits I had slight issues with - it's school orientated (lets have fun at school) - so if your child doesn't go to school it makes it less appropriate, but more importantly, the mean bully is bullied himself and then immediately learns the error of his ways. That isn't what happens eh? Usually kids who are mean are not doing it because they haven't learnt to be kind, but rather because they have experienced meanness themselves, or have some need which isn't met. And it's a lot harder to change ways than stated. So the book itself ends up, ironically, lacking empathy for the bully, and also giving the message that bullies need to be bullied to teach them the error of their ways. It spoilt what is otherwise a useful book for me.
