Does this actually work?  Did it pass that crash test that was on the news recently?

I've done a lot of research on different brands of dog safety harnesses & would like to share... First, dogs should NEVER ride in the front seat. Like children, dogs will be severely injured, or killed by your airbags. NEVER allow your pet to ride in the front seat... Second, these tethers, & harnesses will catastrophically fail, causing the dog to be thrown thru the windshield, or into other passengers in the car. If you're like me, our dogs are part of the family. I want them safe, too! Can a dog ride in the front seat with the harness?

He/she might could but there are things to consider, dog's size and if they are a calm/excited/or jumpy rider.  You may want to turn off the airbag as well. And you have to remember that while this harness will help restrain the forward movement, (depending on adjustment and what it is attached to on the dog), it will not restrain them as much side to side as a person might be in a seatbelt. It is only attached to one side of the seat belt.. I would not attach it to any type of choker or normal throat type collar. If there was some type of accident it would put all the stress on their neck, and that would be the same seated in back or front. I have a full body harness  on my boys and this harness attaches to the center back area. Sorry my answer is not cut and dry, just a lot of things to consider. I know one never plans on a accident, you can only prepare so much. I have my boys (85 & 96 lbs.) in the back seat for a number of reasons. It does help me knowing they are restrained to some degree. I already had to stop short once because of another driver and they kept my boys from slamming into the seat backs. Just some things to consider.

Will it hold a big dog?

My dog weighs 45 pounds so not exactly big but I would absolutely trust it on my mom's dog who was120 pounds. It is very sturdy and locks tightly into the seatbelt clip.

Question 4

Doesn't this just throw the dog around in a crash?  How does it provide any protection?

My dog is Hudini and after spending $40 on a seat belt, I thought I would spring for the adjustable pet belt. You can give your pet as much or as little freedom as you like. You provide the collar so you have the option of the vest belt or regular neck collar. I haven't had a crash in 40 years so I can't really answer to that. So far I am sorry I didn't buy this device 10 years ago ! I LOVE IT.... I hope you give it a try. Gayle
