I am very happy with this purchase instead of buying new flares every three years when they expire. It is very easy to use. It will certainly be safer than igniing flares on a boat. I kept the expired flares as a backup but cant see using them. Easy battery replacement each spring and your done.

Product is well packaged, batteries are also included but are cheap chinese brand. I put the batteries in to test the unit and WOW. I was not ready for that first flash. Seeing spots for several minutes afterward. Like any battery powered device, I would not leave the batteries installed for storage due to possible acid leakage. Just get some good brand name dated alkalines and you are good to go. I also like the fact that when you are in trouble, you don't have to have a hot flare on fire in your boat when you are miles off shore. (I bought mine for lake Ontario) I tested mine and it does fit in all the rod holder locations including my downriggers. All in all I am satisfied.

Very happy with purchase! No more flares to purchase because the date expired. This comes with lifetime guarantee, so even a better deal. Much safer than flares, having burned some after they expired, they are very hot, they drip which will burn you or drop in boat and do damage, you basically have to hold them over the water, could be dangerous with rough seas. You just twist this to turn on, flares can be tricky to light! So happy the Coast Guard approves, so much safer. Change your 3 cell batteries once a year to be safe.

I recently purchased the Sirius Signal C-1003 eVDSD and was amazed how bright that light is. I can see why it has a 9 nautical mile line of sight. It is very easy to use and well made. Much better than the old style flairs.

Great item no more buying dangerous flares . Even my grandsons 8 & 10 year olds know how to operate this if we are in trouble .
