Home Invasion: The Survivalist Series, Book 8

Book number eight of a ten book post apocalyptic series
Book number eight of a ten book post apocalyptic series. I read the well printed and mostly well bound POD (print on demand) trade paperback. One page came out of the binding when I read the book and flexed the binding. This is the first failure of a POD book binding for me and I have read dozens of these. I have placed the next book in the series in my Big River cart. This series started with a very high altitude EMP over the central USA, quite possibly self inflicted as the first stage in a civil war. The EMP destroyed all electrical systems, especially computers and car computers (I disagree with this). Things got worse. It has been a year now, 70% of the USA citizens are dead due to starvation, exposure, drug dependency, etc, etc, etc. Our protagonist is now the sheriff of his central Florida county since nobody else would do the job. The last five or six sheriffs died of lead poisoning, etc.The people outside the USA are starting to pick over the remains of the USA. The Russians and Cubans are slowly invading Florida. The Chinese have taken Hawaii and have a fleet off the west coast of the USA. The remnants of the USA military used nuclear weapons to stop the west coast invasion. The Chinese responded in kind. Now it is ok to use nuclear weapons. No matter what, stay out of FEMA camps !

A FANTASTIC SERIES - I hope it will continue
This entire book series has been a delightful surprise. I had been reading zombie apocalyptic books, but I was looking for a series that was actually possible (you can suspect you disbelief for only so long). The reason I enjoy these books is because they're about survivors... people who do not allow obstacles to define their future. In this book series, the protagonist.. and his friends, all share common principles and values. Socio-political principles and values that the entire world needs to adopt.CAUTION - POSSIBLE SPOILERThe ONLY thing that I would have liked to have seen in this book is a bit more exploration of the character Lee Ann (one of Morgan's 3 daughters) when Morgan was in the clinic/hospital. Based upon how she has evolved, I don't think that she would have sat at home twiddling her thumbs with her dad recovering in the clinic. On the contrary... what I would have liked to read was that she put on her badge, slung on her MP5, appointed herself "acting" Sheriff, and took over patrolling the county with Jess, Fred and/or whoever else she could get. This young lady has gradually and repeatedly proven herself as capable of handling herself - and "tense" situations. I would like to have read about people coming through town and asking about her and her crew... with the townspeople telling them how SHE was the acting Sheriff. And telling them stories of how, much like her father, she had demonstrated a very low tolerance for lawlessness.

Great series
I read all eleven books. They are easy reads and entertaining. I am eagerly awaiting a 12th book!

Angery American has come a very long way in his writing ability with these books. It’s been a great pleasure to see this evolution and him coming into his own. In many ways, it is much like his protagonist Morgan. Some will state that the book has editing errors. Frankly, I don’t care about an occasional type-o or grammatical error. I personally feel that what matters is if the author can tell a compelling story. A. American has done just this.I can relate to most of his characters, and I’m sure that many readers do. This is part of the compelling nature of the story. I lived next to Thad; my girls are Lee Ann, Taylor, and Lil Bit. Meathead sits on my couch and does nothing else. That’s the beauty of this series. You become part of the story through the realism behind the characters. The genre itself has become something I’m very interested in. Another thing the book does for the reader is It places small survival vignettes within the pages to help teach things that we might not already know. Like how to preserve tomatoes off the vine in wood ash. Or how to make starch from Kudzu root. I’m from a small rural part of Tennessee, and I’ve spent my fair share of time in the woods, but I didn’t know about the Kudzu root or the tomatoes preservation trick. This old dog has been taught a new trick. The author has spent his time well in telling a good story. Don’t hesitate to read it!

This series has been a great read since the first book with characters that can be easily related to and a wide range of situations that do a good job of providing instances of problems that could occur. I've found myself invested in the outcome of the characters and was I genuinely excited when this book was released."Home Invasion" is a good next installment covering some new threats and some good examples of the mindset needed to deal with them. As with the other books it has information applicable to the real world and several times has sent me to the internet in search of more information about ideas I had not considered. That being said there were times the book felt rushed. There are several instances of excessive repetitiveness that simply were not necessary to the story (Possibly an attempt to provide an example what happens when information isn't spread to the group effectively?) and the humor/levity between the characters, which has always been one of the more endearing parts, keeps increasing in intensity to the point of bordering on the maniacal.(Perhaps a manifestation of the prolonged stressful environment?) I couldn't decide if these were on purpose or not.The observations above to the side it is still an excellence addition to the series and I'm looking forward to the next one. Thanks A. American and keep up the good work!

Good Story, Sloppy Writing
I've read the seven preceding books and obviously find them entertaining. The writing is getting sloppy now with double words, missing words, and misspellings. I guess with all the knowledge the author has, I would have expected him to know that you field dress a deer immediately, whether it's shot or hit with a vehicle. A little more research wouldn't hurt. I do recommend the series, though.
