The BEST "impulse buy" in years !
The InStyler Ionic Styler Brush is the best beauty tool purchase I've made in years.I watched many demonstrations, full of envy, as the models in the Perfecter demos used their styling tools with such ease, free from the fear of burning either their scalp or hair. I knew , from experience with the Calista Tools Hot Paddle Brush, that the Perfecter just wouldn't work for me. My thick, coarse hair requires HEAT.So, I did what I always do, after a search of online reviews of 2015 best beauty tools, I turned to Amazon.com. There isn't much hype in the ad for the InStyler, but from the photos I surmised that this one might be what I needed. The teeth are long enough and broad enough to protect the hands and scalp from high temperatures and spaced widely enough to detangle, to guide the hair through them without breakage. The handle is ergonomically designed for ease and safety of use. The higher heat setting is exactly what I need ! And- at the amazingly affordable price I could afford to take a chance.Once I had this wonderful styling tool in hand I was elated, oh so glad I took the plunge. This is everything I need. I can flat iron from the root , ending with a twist around the barrel at the ends to accomplish two tasks at once ! I can use the locking feature to effortlessly curl whatever didn't get curled with the first pass through, even at the nape of the neck, even at the crown. The higher temperature allows a once-through finish, without burning , without having to hold the styler in place for extended periods of time (as is required with the Perfecter even by those who aren't challenged with thick, curly locks) . This styler is phenomenal !The InStyler Ionic Hot Brush may not receive the press that the competitors receive but it should. The ratings should be higher. I'll admit I made this purchase as a "why not", an alternative to the more highly rated, better advertised BaBylissPro. But the BaByllissPro has bars of thinner, more breakage-prone, hard teeth that slip back and forth along the barrel, clacking with a tinny noise while in use. The InStyler, in contrast, has stationary broad, smooth cool touch ionic bristles. They don't shift, tug or pull. They don't make you feel like you settled for less, again .The InStyler has heft without being heavy, a reassuring, more substantial construction. The sliding bar on the stem locks the barrels together into a stable curling brush, securely apposing the surfaces of the flat iron. BaBylissPro has a fragile flip top hinge at the end of the wand, which I doubt will last through many uses. There aren't many choices for a woman with the grade of hair the industry considers as an afterthought. Until now, the traditional, dangerous, curling "wands" were the only effective tools out there. We had curling irons in the fire, literally, then scary electric branding irons. What a find this tool is. The fear, the dread is gone ! I can straighten, wave, curl with confidence, with ease, and get fabulous, smooth, lustrous hair. (keeping all my hair on my head instead of lamenting the dozens of broken strands I usually have to pull off of brush/comb/curler )Ladies blessed with lots of dense, coiled hair, don't hesitate ! Don't overthink this one. So, all the others have disappointed you ? I am convinced that you'll never regret buying this versatile, effective, safe, state of the art CERAMIC flat iron/ curling iron with IONIC bristles.ps: it's on sale today, a further reduction by Amazon.com ! I bought a backup !

Repeat buyer of InStyler - See before & after pics
Edit to include: this is a review of the FREESTYLE InStyler tool. I noticed that the reviews here are for multiple models of the InStyler.I LOVE the InStyler tool. The first photo shows my InStyler (white) and my very old InStyler (purple). I bought my original InStyler many years ago, maybe 8-10 years? I can’t really remember. But the hard plastic teeth are now breaking off. The tool still works. I searched for months locally for a replacement of anything close to my purple tool. No luck. One key feature is the on/off button does not toggle when using the tool. Not the case with every other brand out there. Also, other brands have bristles which cause static and pull the curl out of my hair. I finally went on line and found out the InStyler that I love is not made any more. But the new model (white) is available. So I gave it a shot. I love it. The on/off button is not an issue. It seems to get hotter than my old tool so I use a lower setting. The 2nd pic attached is my hair air dried and frizzy. The 3rd pic is my hair smooth and curled with the InStyler. Both the new & old tool yield these results. I like the fact that I am able to let my hair air dry and allow my natural curl and wave (and let’s face it, friz) be the base that will create the body behind the soft curls that the InStyler yields. Plus not blow drying means less damage to my hair.

Sticky shaft!!
So I liked the 2 in 1 concept and thought the tool itself was great! However! What’s up with the sticky shaft??! … I dunno! Otherwise, I would have given this a 5 star because it does a great job on my hair! Very disappointing!

So fragile! But so great!
I absolutely love this styler for everything it can do! So much that I have bought 3 of them so far! The downside is, I've had to buy 3 so far! The reason is not because it stops working, but because almost immediately, it starts losing teeth. Even when you carefully set it down on the counter after you use it. When I traveled with it, I would wrap it in a soft towel or nightgown, and would only lose a minimal amount (around 8-10 teeth per trip). So I'm always having to replace a perfectly functioning iron because eventually there aren't enough teeth left on it to hold my hair in place. I'm not sure if there will be a 4th purchase in my future. I really thought they would have fixed the design flaw by now. But it is a really good iron if you don't mind getting a new one often.UPDATE:Well, it's been a year, and here I am buying number 4! I'm replacing #3 for the same reason I replaced #2 and #1. Broken teeth. I love this gadget enough to just keep replacing it every year. It's inexpensive enough to do that, but really, can we just try to address the problem?See y'all next year!
