McDermott Lucky L4 Pool Cue

I read a review for the L series cues where the reviewer was upset that the shaft thread was cut into the wood. This is a common feature on far more expensive cues and indeed many high end customs. I thought oh well, it might be a concern to some.Cut to my cue; it has a metal insert lol. No wood to wood contact since the pin is so large. Turns out the metal insert eliminates 100% of the friction you find in normal wood threaded cues. It's a quick release joint by comparison and the metal insert won't wear like plain wood. Turn till it stops and that's it.Some might be concerned about loss of feel. I can't detect any and I suspect most couldn't either. And the most important factor to me, it is dead straight.On the subject of playability and feel, the taper of this Lucky is on the slim side which I like. The back end is also cut slimmer than a typical entry level cue and contributes immeasurably to a quality playing experience.Lastly the wood on my cue has faint but noticeable figuring. The shaft actually has rings and the butt end has a trace of that wispy luminous quality found on custom cues and musical instruments. Superb value.

Well; I did like it; but it does not 'butt well' to my OB shaft; the shaft it comes with has more deflection then the fiberglass bar stick; 'tested it';also it will warp; but it was good in a pinch for the money; but not recommended for everyday play or practice;Two stars because the novelty of a 'wood on wood' joint is simply that; its the most difficult stick to put together and doesn't prove to hit or feel better; still uses plastic joints so why 'wood to wood'?

Just not happy with it overall.

Bought it before Christmas. Very pleased with everything about this cue. Shoot 4 days a week with tournament players and they used it and are impressed with it. They are sending people to see my cue that want a new cue.

Exactly what I was looking for a light colored McDermott cue. They came with soft cases too, I didn’t expect that.

At this price range you won't find a better stick

Stick is appropriate weight, straight well packaged came earlier than scheduled. Difficult to put together, and a different shade than the photo, it’s a lot darker than anticipated.
