Among the Ranks of the Carrion Men: The Epic Story of the Thirty-Six-Day Fight in and Around Belleau Wood Volume I

The Most Comprehensive History of Belleau Wood
There have been a few authors who have tackled the Marine Corps Keystone Battle of Belleau Wood.....the USMC's first crucible. Some works are better than others. However, none have presented such a comprehensive and personal deep dive than Marine Kevin Seldon. No one has devoted the time and energy....and resources....to record such a personal account of what the Marines experienced at the tactical, small unit level. The photos of the individual Marines who fought and gave their last full measure of devotion is more than worth the price. Many of which have been rarely if ever published. I can't recommend this wonderful book highly enough. When completed, this series will be a remarkable accomplishment and worthy of the memory of the first Devil Dogs.

Well Researched.
This book is an excellent account of this particular battle. It attempts to cover the advance of both the Marines and the Germans at a turning-point struggle during WW I. I have a family connection to this battle and have even visited the place, and therefore having seen it, the book may mean more to me than to most, but it covers both the larger movements and the deeply personal experiences of some of the men, taken from personal accounts and interviews with the veterans or their families.

Little-Known History in a Fascinating Read
I learned about Belleau Wood in boot camp and subsequently in a couple of books and compilations since. This is the most comprehensive and readable book on the subject I have seen, and I can't wait for the next volume. Full of historical details, yet reads like a great novel. Fascinating stories and anecdotes, punctuated by horrific eye-witness accounts of the men who fought there. Chock-full of photos and maps to bring a hundred-year-old battle to life. A must-read for any Marine or Marine history buff.

A truly outstanding book about Belleau Wood and the Marine Corps one hundred years ago. It is exhaustively researched, and extremely well written. It really is the best book on Belleau Wood, and there have been some great ones! This book should be on the Commandant's Reading List. Very highly recommended.
