in the 90's were great. Graphics and play much better now
Purchased used. Needed Steam account name to run (password was supplied). Tried own Steam account and was rejected (it knew it was from another account). Returned for full refund.Note on Steam: As far as I'm concerned, this concept has ruined PC gaming. I long for the old days of purchasing a CD, inserting it and playing. Doom, Quest, etc. in the 90's were great. Graphics and play much better now, but the Steam umbrella has made it a pain!

Excellent WW2 shooter - lives up to *all* the hype.
I put off buying this for a while as there are so many good FPS games due out in the next few months. Finally I couldn't resist the rave reviews any longer and bit the bullet.I have to say this is the best games purchase I have made in a very long time. This game is packed with authenticity, attention to detail and outrageously brilliant gameplay. I just lapped this up - it's like being in a good war movie. The graphics are excellent, with a cracking game engine and it runs stable as a rock on my (2 year old) PC. Sound effects are fantastic, voice dialogue is quite well-acted and the variation in characters and NPCs is refreshing. I thought the high points of the single-player campaign were the Brecourt Manor assault (straight out of Band of Brothers) in the US campaign; the Pegasus Bridge assault and defence in the British campaign; and the highlight of all is the Stalingrad defence from the Russian campaign. The action is multi-layered, frenetic, and truly adrenaline-pumping. The only downside is that weapon sounds are so brilliantly rendered that if you have invested in a 5.1 setup, you will crank it up and let the room shake around you, resulting in partial deafness! (Sorry neighbours!)The greatest plus from the single-player point of view is that COD finally has cracked the problem which plagues previous squad-based games, namely the incomprehensible and erratic team AI (Battlefield 1942 the obvious culprit!!). In COD, your teammates take initiative, pick their targets and generally manage to stay out of each others' way and avoid blending with the scenery. Lead, and they follow, providing proper covering fire; alternatively, you can lag back a bit and they will clear a way ahead and provide holding positions for you to exploit. It is by far a superior game to MOH or BF 1942.I haven't tested multiplayer sufficiently to draw an educated judgement, but at this stage I feel that MOH Spearhead or RtCW (Enemy Territory) just about edges it in gameplay, although COD obviously looks and sounds better. This is a fantastic game that you will keep playing long after you've forgotten Medal of Honor. Buy this now!

WOW! Absolutely Stunning!
I pre-ordered this game after playing the demo, which I was very impressed with. The game itself is just a masterpiece, from the jaw droppingly good graphics to the clever AI. Particular scenes just take your breath away, such as the the first mission in Stalingrad as a Russian soldier, which is like the beggining of the film 'Enemy at the Gates', through to the tank battle at Kursk. I think this is without doubt the greatest game to hit the PC yet. I should imagine that you require a good graphics card to admire the true quality and smoothness of the game, I have an Athlon XP1700 and a G-Force 4 Titanium 128mb card, and it runs like a dream with very high detail settings. The only sour point to this game is that its maybe a little too short, I completed it on normal difficulty in around 12 hours of total gameplay, about a week playing a couple of hours per night. However If you have a broadband connection, you can then make use of the fantastic multi player option over the net. This I will never get bored with as you face a different human challenge every time you link up. Lets hope Activision are already underway with the expansion pack. Fantastic in every sense.

The best FPS out
So you've completed the Medal of Honour series and you're a Battlefield 1942 veteran. Well, this is the next step after MoH and it really is a step up. The most obvious improvement is the brilliant graphics, whether the Russian winter snows, the ruins of Berlin (the final battle scene on the steps of the Reichstag is eerily realistic) or the Normandy countryside. Even the other characters are really nicely rendered. The weaponry is varied (you will probably find that, as in real life, the German weapons are rather more accurate and more sought after than their American equivalents) and the missions cleverly constructed - although the tank drive is not terribly well simulated, it is fun after creeping through the sewers of Stalingrad. The big set piece battles are a visual feast - from the river crossing from Enemy at the Gates to some lovely scenes from Longest Day and especially Band of Brothers. At times you wish people would stop shooting at you so you can really look round properly! This really is the best WW2 FPS shooter - after finishing it I promptly started again. Buy and enjoy!

Fantastic
Seller Review:Overall i am pleased with my package. I bought second hand for £2 and it came next day (because i have prime). The discs are perfect, could probably be mistaken for brand new discs. The box is a bit battered and brused but for £2 you cant complain. Inside the box were the discs and the game manual with the activation code on the bqck of it to install the game and that worked. So yeah for £2 i am more than pleased. Why I Bought:I love the Call of Duty series, not to keen on the multiplayer but i have always loved the single player campaigns and the first call of duty is the only call of duty i have never completed so i was amazed when i got a copy for £2 off amazon. Can't wait to play through the game that kick started a great series.

Beautiful to behold
And it is. There is no dwell, no jerkiness as in MOH, its smoother than Mr Smooth the smooth snake. But don't bother with the easy setting, it really is too easy and you'll whistle through the levels. The AI is such an advance from the likes of MOH, which I loved, but now seems dated by comparison. Even my other half has peered over my shoulder and oohed and ahhed at the graphics. IT really is a surprise to get elbowed out of the way by a squad mate who wants to take point and is effective at doing it. As the Bren gunner at Pegasus Bridge you are the one laying down suppressing fire whilst the rest of your platoon does the assault. Its a corking play and the best FPS around. Buy it now, you know it makes sense
