we got a Model 3 and they sent us the current NEMA 14-50 standard. our home was built in the 80s and has a old 240V dryer outlet 10-30R in the garage (which isn’t grounded). planning to update the switch (new switch and also routing bigger gauge wires to a new outlet) Be sure to change the amperage input to 24A instead of. full 30A in the Tesla to avoid overheating and tripping the switch. Still much faster and better than the 120V. Tesla mobile charger won’t operate unless you plug the green ground wire to a nearby outlet.

I recently bought my first electric vehicle. Not a Tesla and not new but still..........The seller included a high speed JuiceBox charger and I didn't even bother to look at its plug and then look at the drier plug in my garage. I just assumed that they were made for each other.Well they weren't and so I entered a period of deep dive research.It boiled down to:a) Have an electrician install a brand new 240V wall socket in the garage for exclusive use by the charger.b) Have an electrician upgrade the existing drier wall socket which will then mate perfectly with the JuiceBox charger but no longer with the old drier. Then buy a cable adapter to help mate the drier to the new socket.c) Leave the old drier socket alone and just buy this cable adapter and timeshare car charging and clothes drying.I went with option (c) and within minutes after the adapter arrived I was "high speed" charging my new-to-me EV.I like the fact that no electrician was called.The coil of green ground wire that comes with this adapter gets plugged into the round hole of any nearby 110V ordinary outlet. It eliminates any risk of shock which keeps me in compliance with the codes.

This worked to charge my model 3 tesla on a three prong dryer outlet!

I can confirm the NETAK NEMA 10-30P to 14-50R 120V/240V 30 Amp External Ground Welder Welding works with charging a Tesla VIA the dryer port :-P I plugged the external ground into an outlet next to the dryer outlet and plugged in my Tesla and it fired right up to start charging and a whole lot faster!
