Great resource
I like that this book has different itineraries for how many days you will be in Iceland. Also, lots of information to help you plan your own trip.

Misprinted
Strangely enough, I got a book that was missing pages 1-80 and had pages 81-128 TWICE! I returned it and the next book was printed correctly. I can’t wait to use it. It looks like very useful info with details for the Ring Road and all areas of Iceland.

Not for ring road campers.
Over the last decade and a half I’ve used Rick Steves books to travel through Europe with great results. This guide didn’t provide me what I was looking for.In fairness to Rick Steves, I think this guide is written for the majority of consumers who are visiting during the summer, who stay in hotels and guesthouses, are going to base out of Reykjavík and do day trips from there, and who probably won’t spend over 5 days in the country. If this describes you then I’m sure you’ll be completely satisfied with this guide, so read no farther. When I started planning a trip to Iceland I assumed his guide would be as full of useful information as in the past, but this book missed the mark for me. My travel plans included a trip around Iceland on the ring road with a camper van over approximately 10 days during shoulder season. So why doesn’t the book work for me?-The chapter on the ring road is 9 pages long for a 800 mile journey while the chapter for the golden circle drive is 29 pages long for a 190 mile trip. Significantly more space could be dedicated to the ring road chapter to help the reader make efficient choices instead of trying to flip back and forth between other chapters on the various geographical regions and trying to piece together the attractions in geographical order.-The ring road chapter breaks down the travel itinerary into 5 days and recommends adding another day in Myvatn or south/east Iceland if you have more time. Yet in the front of the books “plan your trip “ section it recommends (a much more realistic) 10 plus days to do the ring road. I’d prefer a more detailed, pleasurable, and realistic time frame to accomplish the ring road.-The geographic region chapters ‘sleeping in……’ sections provide zero information on campgrounds, but instead focus entirely on guesthouses/hotels. Given how popular camper vans rentals are in Iceland, how it is illegal to “wild camp”, and how commonplace campgrounds are across the country, it would seem appropriate to include some information on the location, quality, and amenities available at these overnighting spots.-This book assumes you will visit Iceland during peak season which is about a 3 month window. I felt it provided only vague seasonal ranges for when places will be open or closed outside of this peak summer season. Given how expensive Iceland is and how crowded it becomes during peak season, it would seem useful to be more specific about attractions that are open during shoulder season so that budget travelers (or people who are less tolerant of crowds) could potentially enjoy Iceland too.If you’re planning on doing the ring road or traveling off of the peak season then I suspect you’ll find large gaps in the information you’ll need to make efficient use of your time, which is why we buy guidebooks in the first place. Plan on spending lots of time on google filling in the blanks.I’ve always enjoyed Rick Steves for his candor and budget minded travel tips. Given the distance (cost) it takes for Americans to travel to Europe and the typically limited amount of vacation time Americans have, being focused on time and economy was an important factor in buying his guidebooks. Seeing as how camper vans are an economical way to see this country and its natural beauty, I felt this guide failed to address this segment of the market and thus my needs.

6 Stars - don't buy anything else
If you're visiting Iceland don't even think of buying any other guide. I wasted ££ on the Berlitz and Rough Guides to Iceland which were IDENTICAL and really useless. I am a great fan of Rick Steves and I should have known better. He is the GO-TO man for travel guides. Just buy it!
