Q: what size is where the blade goes into? I keep seeing 2 inch, and i need 3 inches.

I'm not positive but believe mine is three inch.

Q: Is the 40" 3 hole handle split at the blade fits inside the handle?

mine the ditch bank blade goes between the split in the handle and there is two metal plates that go on the outside of the handle (I think I used my old ones off of my old handle but can't remember) and then you put the bolts through the metal plates and through the blade and put the nuts on the outside of the metal plates hope this helps purchased mine a couple of years ago and it's still going good purchase
