Yet another winner
In a kind of a spoiler this book has little to do with the series on amazon. It is uniquely different but their are some similarities. The artwork is fantastic and the story line is a series of standalone stories. If you like this authors work, it is a strong recommend.

Gorgeous art!
An absolutely beautifully illustrated book, and the story is deeply chilling.

The book's great, the shipping could be better
When I was reading the book it was quite soon apparent to me why it inspired so many. It has a really strong aesthetic which goes much deeper than "robots and mystery in 80-s Sweden". The way the stories are told, the charm of childhood stories plays a big role here. The narratives and illustrations are "human", very easy to sympathize with. Even though there's little overarching plot, every story pulls you in the universe and you get to experience different aspects of people's lives in a short amount of time. Oh, and the book is quite short, which is a shame. Both the Amazon series and Things from the Flood, at least for me, don't scratch the same itch as this book.

Great art
Love the artwork in this book. Futuristic but nostalgic.

Wish It was more robust
I really enjoy Simon's work, and I think the book does a nice job of putting a narrative feel behind what is a collection of individual works. The prints themselves are a nice rich quality and the paper-stock is well chosen. What is stopping me from marking this 5 stars is the fact that My entire book, front to back, has a bent corner. This is clearly visible on every page and is beyond disappointing. I don't believe it happened during shipping, but rather shortly after being placed on my bookshelf. The problem as far as I can tell is the cover/binding of this book is fairly soft and malleable and provides little protection against the pressures of shelf life. Unfortunately I don't have a coffee table for this to lay comfortably flat. And now must live with a marred book in my collection despite it never being treated in a rough fashion.I will update this later with a photo of the damage.

A fantastic and well-made vision of an alternative past
What a world Simon Stålenhag has envisioned in his inaugural art book. Scores of people have already been enchanted by his dark, melancholic brand of nostalgia simply by viewing his art online, but the book offers even more immersion in that same, rich vein. This first collection of pieces is thematically cohesive from scene to scene and sustains a light, yet compelling, story about the experience of this reality. The addition of companion narrative passages does not lessen the appeal of the collection by attempting to explain the scenes depicted, but instead provides an additional layer of context that enhances the tone of the work as a whole. Also included are diagetic materials, like maps and missives, that are a nice bit of world building one wouldn't get by viewing Simon Stålenhag's art online. The quality of this publication is the other amazing part of this work. The material, binding, and print quality are all top notch for the price, and make the collection just that much more enjoyable. I sheepishly admit that I purposefully leave this book sitting by the couch and most visitors have asked to look through it because (I assume) it is such an attractively designed and well-made book. This is the first 'art book' I've purchased so I'm hardly an authority, but I've never regretted the money spent and I doubt that, since you find yourself reading this review with enough interest to come to the end, you will not be similarly enthralled.

Recomendo!

Simply Beautiful
Simon Stålenhag creates such a fascinating, lived in world. The images are captivating & the story is engaging. This is probably my second favourite of his after Electric State.
