Just the Right Challenge Level
Purchased for my child who just finished second grade to use during the summer before third to keep his study skills intact. This reminds me of standardized test prep materials so it is very cognitive, but it is in small chunks so it is very manageable. There are 4 math problems and 4 reading comprehension problems each day. There is also a corresponding answer key with explanation for each day in the back. The subjects and skills are varied so it covers a lot of area. I was afraid math would just be computation, but it utilizes many different standards. The reading also incorporates different types of passages so it isn't just fiction stories. It is quick and painless yet challenging. I can't say my child likes doing workbook pages, but knows it's part of the summer routine and gets it done in 10 - 15 minutes. I'd highly recommend this series for summer practice.

Great for summer learning!
The Lumos Summer Learning HeadStart book is perfect for keeping your child occupied during the summer. This book helps them retain the information they learned during the school year and to prepare for the next school year.

Great to avoid summer slide!
Overall, my son does very well in school, but he struggles with reading fluently because of his stuttering. This has caused him to not enjoy reading. I love these workbooks for him because the daily exercises are not overwhelming. We have fun with the math and the reading activities allow us to practice fluency while checking for comprehension as well. I'm also thankful that there is a bit of writing interwoven into the ELA practice as well. We will definitely be getting another book next summer!

Great for keeping skills sharp.
These books are great for bridging the gap between the grades. By continuing to do things over the summer helps my children when they start back in fall. The lessons don't take much time to do and if the kids focus, they can be done in 5-30 min for the day's material (depending on if it's reading or not). The online portion is also helpful to get the kids used to navigating websites and answering questions online. There are a couple of typographical and content errors I've noticed, but to be fair, that's with pretty much every book and parents should be engaged anyway to go over material with their children. I also would like to see the answer sheets be the tear out kind, so we can remove them easier.

Summer Practice
I bought this book for my daughter, who was going into 3rd grade. It was a great way for her to practice her math and reading skills over the summer. We dedicated 30 minutes each weekday morning to sitting down and using the workbook, but never needed all the time. It’s a low stress way to review skills over the summer. I felt like the stories presented and subsequent questions were an appropriate age level. There were even sections for writing prompts which helped to further practice her writing skills. I would highly recommend and would get the next level for future summers.

I think it is very practical.
The media could not be loaded. I bought it for my son who is going to go to 3rd grade and I think it is very complete with several daily activities planned for each week and so he does not forget what he learned in class and I hope it helps him return to his classes with a little more advantage of having practiced daily for a few minutes during the summer and the most important thing for me is that it helps him create a habit.

Ok but Summer Bridge Books are better
I purchased the grade 3-4 and grade 2-3 versions of this book. There were several typos, as well as incomplete information, especially in the mathematics area. For example, a question would mention a diagram but no diagram would follow.Overall the questions were worded in a confusing way.The online component was very clunky, it's not clear how to set it up and once I got the kids working on them the interface was very poor. For example, there were scrollable areas, but it wasn't obvious.
