Excellent tool
If you are in the market for a knife 'steel' then this should be on your list.It took me many years to appreciate the point of these 'steels' and it is worth doing your YouTube homewok to learn how to use them as they are fantastic for producing insanely sharp edges on blades very quickly without getting into Japanese whetstones etc, which is another story...Personally, I have diamond, traditional ribbed steel and ceramic versions of these rods - the ceramics are my favorite. The diamond ones generally take off too much metal but are useful to remove chips or start a really blunt/dull blade. A good quality machined metal 'steel' can be great but the ceramics are inexpensive and give a very good edge indeed by simply changing applied pressure. This one has a good handle - excellent grip and wide 'hand protector'. Cleverly, the manufacturer has added a 400 grit diamond surface to the upper edge of the handle. I have never seen this done before - it is a good idea: takes a bit of careful use but good for occasional use on dull blades or chips. Generally a few stokes on these ceramics will produce a very sharp blade - start with firm pressure then back off, running the blade into the ceramic as though trying to whittle slivers off a wooden dowel. Check the sharpness of the blade by touching it against your thumb nail - if it bites, it is sharp. Do not try it with you finger; if it is sharp you will be looking for plasters! The black lines produced on these ceramics is tiny amounts of steel coming off the blade edge - this washes off with soapy water.I just sharpened 8 blades in 10 minutes with this ceramic rod. Really impressed. Great value.

Yes good product but be careful how you sharpen as these knives are very sharp

Pretty Good
Good price. Seems to work well enough. I'm not sure if it's my lack of skill or the honing rod but I was expecting it to be better. Might benefit from being longer. I haven't used the diamond coating yet.

Is this a dud?
This does not seem to work.I used it on my thumbnail and it left NO mark or abrasion at all!Perhaps the one I got is a dud!

Avoid at all costs.
Absolute waste of money, did not sharpen in the slightest, did not hone the blade or realign the blade. Will have to be thrown away.
