Terrific and comprehensive introduction to Access and databases
Disclaimer: I have not read through the entire book. But what I did read was fantastic. The book is very thorough but not full of heavy-technical reading in the least. They introduce a lot of very important points related to databases. Someone new to the subject would really do well to understand as completely as possible the facets of relational databases. The author(s) does that before getting into specifics. A straight jump into Access can be like getting lost in the wilderness and walking around in circles. Following this book will save a lot of time in the long run. It also introduces important practices related to databases and data in general. It is well worth your time to go through this book chapter-by-chapter and fully grasping what is presented. This is probably the best computer-related book I have read.

Excellent Instruction
Book was great for specializing layout for tracking church event database. Instruction for input validation and input mask was especially helpful.

could be useful for all but the most experienced users
Great book that covers a pretty good depth and at a range of skill levels. Basic database stuff is covered lightly including some normal form and why use a database at all, but so is some macro and VBA stuff. Clear examples and useful example files are also made good use of. I think this could be useful for all but the most experienced users. Good resource for your permanent bookshelf as well.

Good for from-the-ground-up learning, but redundant and wordy
I'm getting back into Access after having used it years ago, and there are pros and cons with this book. The pros: it's great for introductory and reference material. If you know nothing about Access, this is a good book to learn it from the ground up. The cons: it's pretty redundant. The book is over 1,100 pages and I'm one-third of the way through so far, but I can say this book could be probably 2/3 the size it is without the redundancy. It covers a topic, then covers it again a few pages later, then again more pages after that. Granted, covering a new topic is good for beginners, but scattering the same topic coverage many times through the book makes it a little frustrating to keep coming back to something once you've covered it. If you can skim through the parts you're familiar with though (and be confident you haven't missed something because of a feature that should have been covered when a topic was first discussed), then you'll get a good grounding and should be able to use this book for reference later.

Everything you could want to know about Access
This is a great book for beginners to intermediate users. It literally covers almost everything you could want to know about Microsoft Access. There were things I didn’t even know that I didn’t know and this book explains not only the how but why you should do things a specific way.

Good enough
- It's in serious need of editing - at least one chapter is a rehash of material previously covered. In some parts it looks like they wrote two drafts of the same material and forgot to remove one of them.+ Very thorough. They seem to have put a lot of thought into potential issues that new users might run into. You will not be left wondering much.~ This is a reference, not a course. Much of the info cross-references other chapters. This means that you will likely need to jump around if you want to get functional. Since I'm a completist I prefer not to jump around, so I'll likely need to read the whole thing through to be of any use. Different strokes.- There is a LOT of filler. They go through every menu, button and option ad nauseam. If you need to be told what the "Cancel" button does again and again, maybe there's no hope for you. Processes are broken down again and again for each of the different options. I guess it's better than leaving stuff out, but it feels like a cheap way to get more pages in.

Good Reference
As with all the 'Bible' Series books this is one of my favorite reference sources. There are good, clear examples of most of the coding problems I run into. The only thing I did not find was a good method to replace the .ADP feature of the 2010 Access and earlier. That however is not the books fault, that is a dropped support issue from Microsoft. It reads better than some novels I have read.

Easy to understand
I own a lot of Access Books, this has to be the best book I have ever used. I actually stopped what I was doing when I was in the VBA code to come thank the authors in this review.
