The Complete Stories of Sherlock Holmes

This is a review for the Wordsworth classic Sherlock Holmes, Black cover with gold lettering and pipe on the front cover. The paper quality is extremely thin and type is small, obviously to keep the size and weight down. The pages are only glued in so the volume does not have a strung binding which means the pages will fall out! I am very careful with books but already some of the pages are starting to come adrift! There are plenty of strung bound complete versions out there so these are much better. Most don't have the original illustrations (or any) which is a shame. The Barnes & Noble leather bound version would be perfect with Pagets illustrations but probably a little large.Dave Sheppard.

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME. I had the green back hard cover. Unfortunately it fell apart as I read it so often in bed.😥. I treated myself to the leather bound volume with gold leaf pages. That I’m keeping pristine. I bought the paperback version and it’s big! For any fan of Sherlock Holmes BOTH books are great value with Amazon. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Probably one of the finest writers of the time. BUY with confidence. You won’t be disappointed.

The book is fine as far as the stories go but the Strand illustrations are reduced to small squares and poorly reproduced at that. I own a large hardback facsimile edtion of the Strand stories by the same publishers and it is first rate, with stunning reproductions . This is terrible to be honest, if you want the lovely illustrations I suggest you look elsewhere. The Kindle editions of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles', 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' and the 'Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' by Top Five Books publishers are the best out there out of all the Kindle editions, with great reproductions of the illustrations. Just trying to help you .

I received the book this morning and I am delighted with it! When I opened the parcel my wife exclaimed 'What a beautiful book'...and it is too! A hard backed book, it has a lovely red (linenised?) cover with the page edges being red too.The inside of the book has beautiful original illustrations taken from the Strand newspaper where the Holmes stories were first serialised.I shall not go into the storylines as I am sure that most people will be aware of the timeless Sherlock Holmes stories (I read them all as a schoolboy..and loved them)Due to the two latest excellent Holmes films and the brilliant TV series my schoolboy interest was reawakened and I decided to order this book containing the full series of books and short stories.I suspect that the only problem I shall have with this book is the sheer size of it...it is Mahoosive! at 1408 pages it ranks as one of the longest books in my collection...brilliant!At the huge cost of £7.19 with free P&P I could not afford to be without this lovely book which I shall treasure.To sum up...A beautiful luxury book,featuring some of the most memorable Characters and stories ever written all at a knockdown price!

I've been (re)reading a mass of late nineteenth and early twentieth century popular fiction recently: Conan Doyle stands out as the best writer by a mile and, as a hero, Sherlock Holmes is simply streets ahead of the rest - from Bulldog Drummond to the Four Just Men. I particularly like the fact that although Holmes is drawn as a laid-back, arrogant intellectual to whom all things come easy, he is neither snobbish nor smug (which makes him pretty much unique among the heroes of his age). Perhaps that's because old CD was neither snobbish nor smug himself - I like to think so. All the old observational tricks still work (nobody's ever bettered them) and all the jokes are still good. I just wish CD hadn't pretended the poor chap was completely celibate - of course he wasn't, particularly when it came to that Adler lass.

I've loved the old Sherlock Holmes films (Basil Rathbone) ever since I was a small child, but only very recently came to read some Holmes quotes, by chance. This got me interested in the stories gernally...and this book is the complete collection. I cannot put the book down, the stories make utterly compulsive reading. They worn so well and age has, if anything, made the stories even more intriguing.Got the Kindle version btw as had read that the book was somewhat cumbersome. The Kindle experience is perfect as ever and having the dictionary to hand is a G-dsend with some of the more obscure/ancient words!Ridiculously cheap via Kindle too....why on Earth would you NOT want to read these timeless works of art?

I'm not going to spend lots of time reviewing Conan-Doyle's signature creation: I've never read Sherlock Holmes before this and I am enjoying it thoroughly. However, whether you are new to Sherlock (apart from the many TV and Film representations) or a died in the wool fan, I heartily recommend this Kindle edition over the free versions available.The tiny price represents fantastic value. Having an active table of contents is a must. Why? Because its all here, as far as I can see - all the stories, novels, novellas - and having to page through them to find you're favourite would be a pain.I'd go further. If you find a free kindle book, before you acquire it, check that the table of contents is active, and if its not, buy it, as there is always a bargain version with this invaluable function.Back to Sherlock: what a fellow! Enjoy!

Well, Holmes, what do you say about an old standard like this?Examining this through my powerful double lens, Watson, I perceive that it is a Kindle edition, which means we have a collection of all the short stories, together with the four novels, in one e-book reader which takes up the space of a paperback in the pocket of my ulster cape.You mean you can read it on the train, Holmes?Certainly, Watson, or in a hansom cab, or the basket of a balloon, or even on Dartmoor, as long as you keep an eye open for the Hound of the Baskervilles. It's the perfect holiday companion.Amazing, Holmes!Not even a three-pipe problem, my dear fellow. Make a long arm and pass me my violin, would you?

It's a beautiful book, a true collectors' edition. This book contains all the original Illustrations from the "Strand Magazine". The font size is very pleasing for the eyes, the quality of pages and the binding of the book is really good. Another Complete satisfactory purchase from Amazon. El formato del libro es grande pero manejable, el papel es fino pero aceptable.Lo peor es que el orden en el que aparecen las novelas y recopilaciones de relatos no es el correcto (simplemente han puesto primero las novelas y después los relatos). On a humid Sunday afternoon in the monsoon of 2019, I was surprised to find a rather large package sitting comfortably upon my dining table. As I began opening it I perceived the image of a pipe, inlaid with gold, peeking out from under the cardboard packing. I smiled at the sight and quickly greeted the newest member of my literary family. I weighed it in my palms and whispered, "I don't know where I'm going to keep you." and the imperceptible reply that followed was, "You are in good hands for my name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people don't know."

must have for all Sherlock Holmes fans. all the short stories and novels compiled into one book, hence very convenient for collection.although paperback, the cover quality is really good. paper quality and printing quality are quite good.but as the size of the book is big, it becomes a little heavy if you read while taking the book in your hand and also not so suitable for taking on a travel. but i think this is not a big problem.

Als großer Krimi und Thriller Fan (und Fan der Sherlock Serie) erschien es mir als Pflicht mich dem Mann zuzuwenden, der doch die Basis für so viele Helden und Antihelden der fiktiven Kriminalgeschichte bildet. Mir war es dabei wichtig, dass ich nicht Unmengen an einzelnen Büchern kaufe, sondern alle Geschichten schön in einem Band habe. Hinzu kommt, dass in dieser Version die Zeichnungen des Strand Magazin enthalten sind. Wie man es von englischsprachigen Büchern gewohnt ist, ist die Schrift klein und das Papier dünn. Das würde ich jedoch nicht als Kritikpunkt sehen. Dadurch dass es aber zweispaltig geschrieben ist, kann das lesen doch manchmal etwas anstrengend sein. Ich kann diese Version jedoch nur empfehlen!

I placed order for the book on 9th May 2017 and I recived the book on 11th May 2017. Very fastttttt delivery and book quality is genuine. All pages are fresh white. Looks like a new new new book. Take it in 325. And nice packing. My home is at 711316.

Its quite remarkable to get all ACD work on sherlock in one book that too for this cheap....The page quality is not as great as original editions but it's okay to read.Shipping took some time from Kolkata to Banglore but at the end of the day its great buy :)

Es en inglés y viene con ilustraciones originales en blanco y negro. Todas sus obras juntan. Merecen muchísimo la pena estos libros, edición muy cuidada a un precio excelente. Lo unico un poco peor es el envio de amazón que debería cuidarlo más.

If you are a Sherlock fan as well as a fan of detective stories then you must go for it, it has two volumes, Volume 1 has 2 novels and 36 short stories, volume 2 has 2 novels and 20 short stories. It's a paperback edition so don't expect the greatest binding ever, binding quality is good enough, Trust me it won't disappoint you.In the picture (Amazon) there is a different publisher's book but I received Bantam Classic's book but it's really good....

What can be said to extoll further, the work of Sir Arthur? Sherlock Holmes is known world wide, is widely admired, and is as entertaining in this Century as in the last. I truly enjoyed reading each case, and remembered many of them, from my youth. I highly recommend this compendium, to all who love a great detective story, and masterful use of the Queens English!

5 stelle per la spedizione, veloce come al solito anche da UK. 4 stelle per il prodotto, semplice, spartano come i vecchi Mammut della Newton Edizioni. È bello che ripropone le illustrazioni originali d' epoca. Sarà un ottimo strumento per migliorare il mio inglese.Chiaramente si tratta di una edizione economica, se si desidera una rilegatura migliore, più solida bisogna valutare altre edizioni.

Eigentlich wollte ich mir schon immer einmal die Sherlock Holmes Geschichten vornehmen, aber den Anstoß gegeben hat letztendlich die brillante Serie "Sherlock" von BBC, die das Krimi-Verlangen noch einmal richtig aufflammen ließ. Als ich dann die Kindle-Edition für nur 89 Cent hier entdeckte, galten auch keine Ausreden mehr. Also heruntergeladen und losgelegt.Mittlerweile bin ich seit Wochen dabei und noch nicht einmal bis zur Hälfte durch. Die Geschichten sind natürlich grandios, fesseln und machen Spaß. Aber auch optisch gibt es nichts zu meckern. Wie einige Vorrezensenten Rechtschreib- oder Tippfehler bemängeln können, ist mir schleierhaft. Vielleicht wurde die Ausgabe auch einfach noch einmal überarbeitet. Ich kann nach etwa einem Drittel des Werkes jedenfalls nicht sagen, dass mir nennenswerte Fehler unter die Augen gekommen wären.Alles in allem: Für DEN Preis SO VIEL Sherlock, das ist einfach klasse :-)

It contains all the stories and the novels. Genuine vintage hardcover. No illustrations. Carelessly packed with two other paperbacks. Book was significantly damaged. A package worth Rs 2000 should be carefully packaged; it used to be a year ago. Terribly disappointed.

This is easily the best collection of UNABRIDGED Sherlock Holmes stories I've ever encountered. The cover is tastefully designed and has the feel of a "good old book" often lacking in today's modern printed works.I've read in other reviews that "the print is too small"... I however, find that the print is no smaller than any other book more than two or three hundred pages long, and is clear and well spaced on the pages, which are light-wight to accomodate the weight of such a large volume.The one and only thing I could say against it would be that it IS a large book, so anyone looking to read it on the bus is likely to have trouble, but then again, it's all of Doyle's works concerning our favorite detective, and that must be taken into concideration.

Hardbound edition.Contains all the short stories and novels writen by Doyle.The text and picture presentation is kind of like the old edition textbooks.Good product if you are interested in the series
