The Forgotten Cities of Delhi: Book Two in the Where Stones Speak trilogy

The Forgotten cities of Delhi is a wonderful book depicting the monuments located between Mehrauli and present Shahjahanabad. The authors Rana Safvi style of writing by integrating text with poetry along with lovely & serene pictures by Syed Mohammad Qasim made it an interesting account. Its a great research and worthy account to read. Regarding seller, I got the book with great delay. It was recieved on my end in more than four weeks. I booked it at the time of its announcement.

Was recommended this book by a friend since I was keen to know more about Delhi's history. The book is worth every paisa. Covers all the monuments related to the cities. Lots of pictures though mostly black and white. Printing is good though I spotted a grammatical error. The small couplets preceding each description are an added bonus. My thanks to Rana Safvi for such an enlightening book.

Most of the author's time and hard work in compiling this work is wasted by the utter lack of maps in the book. This single feature makes it near useless if you want to use this book to plan a trip in Delhi

Amazing book ! loved the way Rana has narrated the tales of different monuments.I did not know till the time I read the book that my ancestors 'Khanzada Mallu Khan' had build Mosque and Eidgah In Hous-e-Khas ! Wow amazing facts !Its a 'must buy' and a must read for whoever who lives 'n loves Delhi. Its also a 'must guide' for an 'Ibn Batuta' who has come to explore forgotten cities in Delhi ! Cities of Slave Sultan, Khiljis, Tughlaks, safavids, Lodhis and Mughals.I wonder where was Delhi during the times of Jalaluddin Khilji...may be Khilokri, I guess.

I loved this book, it’s simple and easy to understand and it’s amazing that Catherine Asher reviewed it! This and “Where Stones Speak” made me fall in love with Delhi again! Excellent book!
