Classic about Ceylon [Now Sri Linka]
Here is a classic movie about Post World War II, with the perfect cast of Elizabeth Taylor, Dana Andrews and Peter Finch. Elephants are alive on some Islands, not just a continent. Finch is the Lord of the Manor who travels to England and finds a Bride. Elizabeth Taylor is the Bride who goes to Ceylon to live on a Tea Plantation known as The Elephant Walk. David Andrews is the Overseer of this sprawling Tea Plantation,A cholera epidemic breaks out, and drought hits the Island. The Mansion was built on a trail and surrounded by an outer wall to block the Elephants. During the drought, the herds of elephants gather, thirst-ridden and mad stampeding through the outer wall and demolishing the mansion. Fires start andburn everything in a horrid inferno. Local Natives are exceptional displaying their culture and with the main actors give this classic a 5-star rating.

Love the Set Decorations!
The movie leaves something to be desired but I love the Set Decor! I love India/British Colonial Style! It makes me wish I could afford a house like that! I would do somethings differently but that would reflect my taste and not the set designer. The cottage on the plantation was just okay and left me redoing it in my mind. So I guess you can say if one loves the set, the script and acting says leave this movie in the don’t bother category!

Walking with Elephants!
My girlfriend is Sri Lankan and said her grandmother used to watch this film. It had surprisingly good effects for the period in which it was made! It’s a good love story, as well as one of the long memory of elephants! Classic film worth the watch!

Classic Love Hate Possession!
This movie was released before my birth in 1954 in the US. Keep in mind that all the actors are British born. I saw it first when I was in college, while being campused for breaking curfew. It was a good movie for its time, mind you I saw in during 1973 so, I guess it's stuck in my memory being a fan of Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Finch and Dana Andrew's. My mothers influence for sure. I saw another one with Peter Finch on Roku Channel the musical version of Lost Horizon, 1973. If possible, check it out. Great film also starring George Kennedy, LivUllman, Bobby Van, John Gielgud, Michael York and many more. Truly a feel good film. Still I bought it, as I've said memories are great to have!

Dated but worth a watch
I'd never seen Elephant Walk despite being a fan of Peter Finch (and, of course, ET). It's a romantic drama and a bit overblown but it's a good yarn and visually impressive. Definitely worth a watch despite the fact that neither of the lead stars are given much of an opportunity to show their real talents.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR IN HER PRIME (WITH A FEW SHOTS OF VIVIAN LEIGH!)
Elizabeth Taylor is at her most beautiful here. Vivian Leigh started to film Elephant Walk but had to leave because of ill-health. She appears in several of the scenes filmed on location (long shots or shots with hats covering her face, but you can easily pick her out because she was slimmer than Elizabeth Taylor). Some close up location scenes had to be re-filmed with Elizabeth Taylor, but budget costs meant that these were re-created in the studio. Dana Andrews appears in scenes with both Vivian Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor, so no wonder he looks a bit confused at times! Well worth a watch! I enjoyed it.

DVD
Saw this film when I was about 7 years old and never forgot the scene where the elephants rampaged through the house. Couldn't remember the name of the film but got talking to a friend about it one day and they said it must be Elephant Walk with Elizabeth Taylor. Looked it up online and bingo it was the one so ordered it. So happy.

Stop me if you've heard this one before...
William Dieterle's Elephant Walk is basically Rebecca in the Naked Jungle, with a dead father replacing a dead wife, Abraham Sofaer made up to look surprisingly like Ben Kingsley in the Judith Anderson role and elephants bringing the house down instead of ants. This time it's Elizabeth Taylor (replacing an increasingly erratic Vivien Leigh, who is still reputedly visible in some long shots) as the nice English girl who discovers that her nice husband Peter Finch is still living in the terrible shadow of his father, who bloody-mindedly built their tea plantation bungalow across the path the elephants used to use to the river. While the elephants try to reassert their right of way and the natives go down with cholera, Liz falls for Dana Andrews' more clear-eyed overseer, but this being 1953 and as in thrall to the ghost of Daphne Du Maurier as Finch is to `The Governor', it's a foregone conclusion that this one will end in flames and the sanctity of marriage reaffirmed. Fairly typical studio product, but entertaining enough in its shamelessly derivative way. And don't forget to look out for the present the lead elephant leaves in its wake as it heads down the hill to Elephant Walk!No extras, but the DVD boasts a good transfer in the original fullframe ratio.

I brought it for my mother and she said she enjoyed it. I watched it as well, but didn't like it as much as she did.
