Pretty harpy
Everyone knows the story of the harpies from Greek myth, but there's some disagreement as to their appearance. According to Wikipedia:Hesiod calls them two "lovely-haired" creatures, and pottery art depicting the harpies featured beautiful women with wings. Harpies as ugly winged bird-women, e.g. in Aeschylus' The Eumenides (line 50) are a late development, due to a confusion with the Sirens. Roman and Byzantine writers detailed their ugliness.Judging from her bare chest and perky bosom, sculptor Julie Guthrie is going with Hesiod's version. Aello is has bird-like feet and hands, with hybrid-wings that are part-bat, part-bird. She also has a long scaled tail that ends in feathers. In short, Aello's a combination of reptile and avian. With the exception of a bracelet and a scarf tied around one forearm, Aello's not wearing any clothes -- she's bare-chested -- and she's got a hairstyle with bangs that end just over her eyebrows. She's looking upward with an almost ecstatic expression, oddly out of character for your typical bloodthirsty harpy. In addition to the odd expression, Aello's claws feel tacked-on, almost like she's an actress wearing gloves. This is an impressive sculpt, but as a monster she's curiously defanged, not particularly threatening. Maybe that's the point. She'll make a good winged and very specific PC, but is unlikely to have much application as a foe.
