The bicycle shop where I hang out bought a used espresso machine (pieces missing). After watching the "gorillas" tamp down grounds with a spoon, pressing like they were making a coffee ground brick, I felt sorry for the coffee they were abusing. This thing is solid and hefty, and will hold up to shop use. I told them to just place it in the portafilter (I just looked that up :-)) basket, and allow the weight of the stainless steel do the tamping. A day later they were singing the praises of the tamper, saying how well it worked. Now, if I can just keep them from using it to set a bottom bracket, it'll be OK.

Measure the Filter Top and Bottom
This tamper is a beautiful item. I have no issues with it. Look out for non standard filters though. I was very careful in measuring the top of the filter. Little did I know that my SAECO filter is tapered, ie the bottom of the filter is smaller than the top. The tamper only goes in about 1/16th inch. The top is 54mm and the bottom is 49mm which is not so obvious. I'm now using a 48mm convex tamper with good results.

Excellent tamper for a DeLonghi BC0330T
Excellent tamper for express coffee makers.Pros: it is solid, and heavy to tamp the coffee. Product finished is well done with good/smooth quality for a machine piece.I used the 49.6 diameter for a DeLonghi BC0330T. It fits pretty well with clearance enough to avoid scrape/stuck in the filter.Cons: pricy!

Tamper base not perfectly round with two raised areas.
The base is not perfectly round. There are two areas of the tamper that rub against the inside of the portafilter that can be seen clearly. One with a single mark and the other with a double mark.

I thought the whole thing was stainless steel, Tamper is, handle is aluminum. However still a good product

i expect better quality as it is expensive
There's scratches at the base, i expect better quality as it is expensive. Otherwise, it would be perfect.
