I just wish I'd known about this sooner.
Tldr: good product, works good, good price, you won't be sorry buying it.Before I knew about this little gem I was having to run my bass into my practice amp, then find a converter for 1/8" to 1/4" for my headphones so I could practice without disturbing anyone. This little dude does all of that in a smaller, more manageable package.Pros: compact, durable metal casing, clip on the back to have it at your belt, simple to use, and it sounds great coming through my headphones.UPDATE (4/7/2015): I have so far tested this headphone amp with distortion, overdrive, tremolo, and chorus pedals. All pedals used were lead guitar pedals, used with bass guitar.DISTORTION pedal: there is a high pitch squeal with the effect turned on. Not certain if that was a problem of that particular pedal (boss overdrive/distortion) because I heard the same squeal from a standard amp.OVERDRIVE pedal: minor buzzing/humming with effect on.TREMOLO pedal: no unwanted sound/effect (squealing, buzzing, humming, etc.) with pedal on.CHORUS pedal: same results as TREMOLO pedal.FUZZ pedal: To be determined.Con's: update: effects, while functioning, sound muted with volume at max.No change in star rating; amp fully functional as is.I'm just a casual bass player, so a lot of the mechanical lingo goes over my head, but I know a good sound when I hear it. Incidentally, hearing such a clean sound coming through caused me to actually learn what all of the knobs on my ibanez gio bass do. But yeah - clean sound, no distortion, which is good when you're just learning. (Like me.)Overall a great little amp.

A simple and effective solution for a headphone amp
I ordered this in looking for the most basic headphone amp in order to listen to my playing without any effects. I am using this with my Chapman Stick (along with a 1/4" stereo to 1/4" mono adapter), and the impedance seems to match fine. It also gives a decent amplification level at 70% of the volume knob and upward. The unit takes a 9V battery (comes with one already installed) and it turns on when you insert your headphone connector into the jack into the top. The unit has a belt clip on the back, which is handy. The biggest plus is that it is quite small and unobtrusive. The only negative thing is that the artwork on the front of the unit scratches off extremely easily (which is rather odd), so you should expect most of the logo to remove itself after some use. Mine showed up with lots of scratches already, but I didn't care since I realized that it is inevitable with the way that the unit was manufactured.

Great Little Headphone Amp, But Watch Your Volume Level
I just got this. I hooked my Epi Les Paul Custom up to a Bad Monkey overdrive and then ran that into this amp, which uses a 1/8" jack to pump the signal into the cans. It actually sounds pretty good and it is sturdily built. For someone who is on the road a lot and you want a lightweight practice amp, I suggest you use this since it is cheaper and less bulky than the piece of crap headphone amp that Dunlop puts out (the Guitar Ace, iirc). Hell, this would be fun to take on a private jet and jam to pass the time while you head to your destination. Too bad you can't do that on a regular airline *lol. There is a volume knob on it to control how loud it is going into your headphones, but it also doesn't run on an adapter, just batteries. I don't know how long a battery will last yet on it, but you are now warned, I guess. Just keep in mind, though, to keep the volume rolled back so that you don't fry your ear drums since the quality of sound is comfortable enough to the ear to be deceptively loud.

Nice tone but not enough output volume
I bought this hoping for a more rugged alternative to the Vox Amplug (two of which stopped working for me within a few months). The tone is pretty decent but, to my great disappointment, the output volume is simply not adequate, even with easy to drive headphones like my Grado SR80i.It sounds clean until around 2 o'clock, then a raspy, unmusical distortion marrs the sound as it runs out of headroom.Bummer, this would've been a great headphone amp if it only had more oomph.

For Me, This Is IT!
Just received this item today -- Amazon's shipping was spot on--great job! This is the first item of this sort I've purchased, and I love it. I'm playing bass and read an assortment of mixed reviews about similiar products. This one has a full metal casing -- not cheap pot metal. It has a very tight fitting belt loop on it...I will see how that works over time. The volume knob is nice and tight, no extraneous movements in any direction; large green led so you know the unit is on. And, I like that fact that the unit turns on & off when the headphones are plugged in or unplugged, respectively. One can leave the guitar (in my case bass) plugged into it and not run down the battery. It requires a 9-volt battery (included). For me, the volume is wonderful. Between the volume on the bass and the volume on the box, it is more than I need. Another feature that I prefer about this product is that it does NOT plug directly into my instrument....that's just my preference. So, now it's off to the patio, park and other places for "silent' practice w/ the headphones. Great job electro harmonix!.

It certainly works...
Not a bad little practice tool, but it's a little picky one what pedals it likes. It likes my overdrive pedal and doesn't mind my chorus/delay/etc... pedals at all, but it HATES my fuzz pedal. Other than that, sounds decent, came with a 9V battery already installed, feels very solid, and it turns on and off when you plug in headphones. Extremely useful, but far from perfect.
