Milton Glaser: Graphic Design: Graphic Design

Wonderful book by an amazing artist and graphic designer. I bought it as a gift, and the recipient hasn't quit talking about how much he's been enjoying it. The breadth of styles and creativity Milton Glaser displayed are legendary. There is no one design style that defines his work, except always exciting and dynamic. The book is nicely printed. Would be a great gift and reference for any art student.

Since you've made it this far, allow me to briefly write about the book--the other commenter puts Glaser's personality so well in context. The book's content is graphic material, both published and rejected, complemented by Glaser's succinct explanations concerning any of the following: historic/social context, guiding professional principles, technique and process, interpretation, the tension between client and creator, etc. The text and the graphical works are very diverse, ranging from terse to lengthy, and simple to complex, respectively. All in all, the feeling of being in Glaser's presence (in class or studio) is likely to grow in you as you progress through the book.If what you've read so far compels you to get the book, do so by all means, it's a 5-star! Otherwise, if, let's say, you are looking for for something akin to a cafe-table book, this one gets only 3 to 4 stars.

After seeing that Milton Glaser had done the promotional design work for MAD MEN (season seven), I took this book off the shelf to revisit.The work that Milton Glaser did during the 1960's proves him to be a true pioneer in the world of Graphic Design. The book is a vast selection of his work, and shows the scope and talent of his palette. I'm glad I gave this book another look.

Glaser's work is so incredible and the selections in this book make that all the more clear. I particularly enjoy the text along side the art plates as well as the brief introductory chapter. A great book for inspiration and seeing how he so successfully linked good design and with good communication.

This book is a must have in your design books.
