A look at Brazilian Crime from a Brazilian perspective
As an American the only real look into the crime in Brazil I have was the movie City of God. This movie took it to another level showing me perspectives of different kinds of cops, not just cops in general but the many flavors and it left me with a sense that theres no simply silver bullet solution to the problem. This is how I knew it was deep. Lots of movies try to convince you that theres just one button you can push or one person you can fire and everything will be OK. At the end of this movie I really felt that this problem was massively complicated but very human and real, something you can never really understand unless you live it. Which I intend to.

Great movie with insight..
I watched this movie with some students/friends in Brazil. Had no idea what to expect but it was a page turner (if you will). Lots of insight of the political, financial and cultural upheavals faced by the masses there. Very good movie id you can get pass some adult scenes that can be a bit graphic.

Great Brazilian crime movie!
This movie shows where the real corruption is in Rio de Janiero. If you like movies like Goodfellas and The Departed, you will love this movie. I also recommend to see the first movie, Elite Squad. I own both of these movies on DVD. The movie is in Portuguese with English subtitles.

Very realistic portrayal of the rare gems in police force in developing countries crippled by corruption from within
A very pragmatic or realistic portrayal of few sincere police officers who are eventually betrayed by the system they so staunchly fought for.Set in the backdrop of Rio De Janeiro, it couldn't be better. I am from India and have heard real as well as fictional accounts of such stories. India is crippled similarly by corruption at various levels. One of the best no-nonsense-cop films I have seen. Wagner Moura is absolutely brilliant and charismatic

Outstanding movie on a very realistic problem
Excellent setup, brilliant execution and an endearing message send thrills through the spine. A story based on Brazilian politics, militia and drug dealers and how these professions blend to produce a dangerous society. I am sure that this movie will be generally true for many other countries around the world, and even some parts of the developed world. Very nice!

Excellent acting/ realistic violence/ no romance
I havent watched a movie this good in a long time. I highly recommend the first movie too, its FREE on yootubers (as of July 2019). Both have EXCELLENT acting. It was really well made, meaning: I forgot they were actors. I highly recommemd for anyone in the military/law enforcement. Its realistic with NO romance to ruin the plot.

Watched this back to back with the first movie after discovering the extremely talented Wagner Moura in Narcos. I don't speak a word of Portuguese, but I found this movie completely riveting. I could not look away (and not just out of concern that I'd miss some subtitles.) I found the subtitles easy to read and follow while still not missing any parts of the actual movie. Cannot recommend highly enough.

This title had commercials.
For the first time, a prime movie had commercials, long commercials. Otherwise, I would give this movie 5 stars. What's going on here?

Cracking, violent thriller
This is in the top twenty movies all time, and may be my fave foreign language movie.I like action thrillers like Sicario, City of God and Heat that have an uber-realistic feel to them. The Elite Squad movies have that documentary style to the action sequences that really put you into the moment. Bullets look like they hurt. You could watch this as a stand-alone, but its best to watch the pair. Elite Squad is good enough to warrant viewing, but having the backstory of the characters portrayed within makes the experience better. The plot of a brutal takeover of criminal run favelas in Rio's lawless sectors by corrupt officials is brilliant and engaging. Instead of selling cocaine, they sell cable TV. But the killings occur just the same way.A truly great movie.

Corrupt Police, Corrupt Politicians, Corrupt Prison Guards and Drug Cartels -What's Not to Like?
Well this full throttle action fest from Brazil should tick all the boxes and as a sequel had more money spent on it than the first. It stars Wagner Moura as Lt. Col Nasciemento who leads BOPE the elite force of non corrupt cops who have been fighting the drug cartels and government under funding. In this follow up we see Nasciemento and his team going to the aid of a prison riot, where the cartels are doling out medieval justice on each other. It goes very wrong and he gets the blame or takes the rap as we should say in a crime flick . In order to take him out of harms way he is promoted to the Security Ministry to oversee things. This is when he realises that it is corrupt cops that are now the problem and the corrupt politicians that allow these extortions to go on, all the time feeding off the weak and poor in the favellas of Rio.This is fictional and says at the beginning that it may seem like the recent past but it really is not. Well if it isn't then it is as close as you can get to a critique or polemic about South American politics without actually being either. We also have the story of Nasciemento's ex wife and son who are now living with a `right on' left wing lecturer come politician who is diametrically opposed to everything he stands for and is driving a wedge between him and his son. This is not a full on actioner, but when it comes it is done really well and the whole thing has a believability that should be incredible, but I think we are so jaded by corruption that it becomes all too easy to believe. We also have some great lines like `if you don't wanna die, you shouldn't have been born' -eat your heart out Shakespeare!Jose Padhila wrote and directed this and I expect to see more from him. Despite this being a follow up he considers it to be the last in his crime trilogy, `Bus 174' was a documentary on how poverty breeds crime and that he considers to be part one. In Portuguese with good sub titles this is world cinema with an edge and a bang, and as a piece of cinema I found it both entertaining and a great journey.

Enjoyable!!!
............But I preferred "City of God". A very action-packed, tense, nail-biting and violent "adventure" with some good acting displayed particularly by the lead actor, Wagner Moura (Captain Nascimento).
