Elements of Power Electronics (The Oxford Series in Electrical and Computer Engineering)

Not a great book...
I'm sorry but this book is a disorganized mess... Why it has the Oxford name on it is beyond me... Examples are too complex to be of any real help to the reader. They are also just so far off from what is asked in the actual problems section. Critical algebra steps are often skipped and important relations are often misplaced. Feels like a scavenger hunt every time I open the book... Book has a website dedicated as an Errata to errors that have been found yet the author refuses to update to a third edition... This book unfortunately has no good way of giving you feedback on the problems you're solving...The book starts out okay.... Chapters 1 and 2 are more of an introduction of the material, though I despise the switch matrix notation they use through out the textbook. Chapter 3 introduces you to DC-DC converters. The theory in this section is actually well thought out and derived. Probably the strongest chapter in the book. Unfortunately, Chapter 4 is the weakest chapter in terms of explanations. Examples were not helpful here and I was left with more questions than answers. I attempted to find supplementary material here and unfortunately was left with no other resources. Chapter 5 gets better but again, theory is very lacking... My class also looked at chapters 6 7 and 9 which weren't as difficult since it's just talking about real devices. Chapter 4 though... that needs some revision. My review is harsh because it should never take me more than an hour to understand relationships that are often skipped in this text book.Overall, this book lacks the building of fundamentals. It kinda just jumps right in. Normally this isn't a big deal but the fundamentals really need to be explained better in this book. Not a good book for beginners. As a beginner, and this being my first experience with power electronics, you're better off buying the Erickson book where relationships and ideas are expressed more concretely than in this book. Sorry if that's harsh but this book did not really help me when I needed a resource to learn from.
