MY AFRICAN ICONS: Great People in Black History

My inner little black girl rejoices!!!!!
I think it’s a really good book. Well written. It’s captivating and intriguing! Even for me as an adult, i find myself reading it on my own too. I was amazed at how many different Kings and queens and prominent people in our history in Africa. The illustrations are beautiful as well!I would love to see it in a board book format for the toddler (Ages 0-5) demographic as well. Even movies, and other things that appeal to young children. Our Children really love the Disney princesses and princes. Our children really need to know our history! I Would’ve loved having this when I was growing up as a kid. I’ve always loved black history, but as a kid I only had American Girl books, the Character Addie I loved was was runaway slave . The books that represent us now, i have dozens at my school, seem to only focus on our physical characteristics and instilling confidence. While that is so necessary too, we are more then our complexion. And your books makes that evident with facts. African Icons was more then worth the price I would’ve paid even more.🖤✨

Teach them beyond what they learn in school
When I was growing up, I had a strong aversion to some of the content covered in American history classes. I felt that the people who looked like me were always portrayed as down trodden and destitute. We were always struggling and portrayed as slaves or descendants of slaves. As a young kid, I was left feeling that our existence began with slavery, and that there was little else beyond that. “My African Icons” challenges the old curricula and thus the old narrative. It provides history about the Nubian people which is never covered in traditional history classes. Our history is rich, and knowing about the amazing contributions of Nubian people will help little Black children to see themselves beyond the victims that we are often portrayed to be. To read “My African Icons” is truly an eye opening gift. Imagine the smiles on the faces of your children when they read about people like Mansa Musa who has been described as the wealthiest and mightiest emperor during his time, or Queen Kandake Amanirenas who was the queen of the Kingdom of Kush and well known for defending her kingdom against the Roman Empire. Just imagine the positive impact of knowing one’s history, especially one which is so rich with influential leaders and trailblazers. “My African Icons” is incredibly powerful and rich in content. I challenge you to read it. It will bring a smile to your face and strengthen the pride in your heart.

African Icons is Amazing for our African kids
Finally a book for our african kids to discover their true origin and rich history. Reading a book with African Icons to my 6 year old is transformative, he lights up and is very proud. We come from a line of greats and this book is showing that. It’s not fictional, it’s researched and very informative. The images of the icons are beautiful and relatable. This book is not only amazing for the kids but also for us parents. We are not only creating a magic bond with our children, we are also learning soo much too!

Book gives our children a sense of pride in their history and self identity
My African Icons is a amazing book that can be read by children and adults, and there are beautiful pictures to depict us. Most importantly it stimulates the reader to want to learn more. I am not a mother yet but I do have younger siblings, when it comes time to finding books to share with them it becomes challenging, in public school books the stories misinform & misrepresent who we actually are or lack the representation all together. However this book is the total opposite it helps to give our children sense of pride in their history and self identity. I am glad a book like this was created especially having to deal with our ancient ancestors. Keep up the excellent work🙌🏿🙌🏿
