Blazing Saddles

Cheated by the seller
This blu-Ray DVD arrived from England. When placed into my disc player, it would not play as it is “incompatible.”So I tried our other Blu-ray Disc player, and it delivered the same “incompatible” message. When I order something through Amazon that doesn’t work, I expect to be able to return it. The company says they won’t accept a return because the package has been opened. How exactly was I as a customer supposed to know that the company had sent an incompatible format until I had opened it, and attempted to play it?

Hilarious
Political correctness is the death of humor, fun and well...art. I bought this movie so that when the scolds who run the world ban it, I can still enjoy the over the top hilarity of Mel Brooks' masterpiece. I suggest you do the same.

One of the funniest movies ever, made by the funniest man EVER!
Mel Brooks is an amazing man full of life, love and definitely laughter. He’s made some brilliant comedy movies. Blazing Saddles is one of his best. A movie made in 1974 that my family and friends always watched...and this classic still does today for not only me but many, many people. A must to watch. 😂

Plays on US region TVs (at least my copy does)
I've seen some reviews saying this disc wasn't compatible on US TVs since it's from England. I had no trouble with my Bluray player. Movie plays just fine. The picture quality of the opening credits looks a bit grainy, but the rest of the movie looks great on my 720p display.

Clever Period Humor and Satire
You have to buy the movie to appreciate it's period humor. It likely wouldn't get put out in this form today in the Uber PC culture. Cleavon Little was brilliant as was Gene Wilder. Like the Blues Brothers, Smokey and the Bandit, etc. you need the uncut versions to fully appreciate the humor. It will never make it to the library at the middle school. The TV pilot was an interesting add, but you can see right away that Lou Gossett, Jr didn't have the pop Cleavon had and the attempt at humor just doesn't work. There's a difference between gratuitous and clever humor, and the film had it. Good decision to ditch things at the TV pilot. Sad that Cleavon left us too soon. A great talent.

Never even arrived.
It's an absolutely hilarious movie, sadly I've yet to receieve my physical copy since it was supposed to arrive July 23rd at the very latest and yet here we are at the end of August and I don't even have a tracking number for it. 10/10 great movie, 0/10 for not actually receiving.

Utterly Fantastic!
With all the outrage and madness going on in the world, seeing everything being censored and/or removed. It put me in the mood for some good old Mel Brooks films. If I was going to start anywhere, it was of course going to be the now legendary Blazing Saddles.Blazing Saddles is a satirical western comedy film directed by Mel Brooks and produced by Michael Hertzberg. The film was written by Brooks, Andrew Bergman, Richardyor and more. It was released in 1974 through Warner Bros and stars the legendary Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little. There's a large amount of cameos from the likes of Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn and even the legendary musician Count Basie.I would be surprised if there were people out there didn't know what this film was about. But for those who don't, Blazing Saddles is a satirical look at racism and the old Hollywood western films. The dastardly bad guys are looking to make a fortune through the new railroad but a town stands in their way. To scare off the white towns folks, the bad guys send a black slave out to be their hero and saviour in the form of the town sheriff. The plot is nice and basic, has plenty of fun stereotypical western tropes and is held together by tonnes of timeless jokes. The film is mostly known for it's use of the "N" word. In fact, that would be true. The film uses it quite a lot. The context in which it is used is where all the fun is. This is a firm slap in the face to racism. If there's something to poke fun at, they do it. You'll see fun jabs at blacks, whites, biker gangs, Hitler, Nazi's and even the KKK. It's all there, it's all firmly on the nose and they don't care one bit. It's hilarious and something you couldn't do in 2020.The bluray looks surprisingly good and is easily an upgrade to my old DVD. For whatever reason, I was expecting this to look as average as the Spaceballs hi-def release. But the film looks great through out. The picture looks consistently clean, very sharp and has lots of strong colours through out. Blazing Saddles is not a film that needs a high quality release being so grounded in dust and tumble weeds but they've put some love into it. I can't complain one bit.As far as comedy films goes, Mel Brooks has a lot of classic films under his belt but this one knocks it out of the park. This film is an all out classic and it needs to be in your collection alongside Monty Python's Holy Grail etc.

Excuse me while I whip this out!
This is one of my most watched films. Excellent viewing for a Sunday afternoon. But because its so watched I actually wore out the DVD we had. Seeing as they had released a Blu Ray edition I was quick to snap it up. The picture quality and sound are just fantastic. The film has a whole new life due to this remaster. The farting cowboys scene is great through my surround sound speakers. Overall I'm very pleased to have one of the finest comedies ever made in such great quality.

Classic Comedy Gold
An irreverent look at dealing with stereotypical interracial abuse with the power of humor. I bought this as this film is now not played on TV, due to the political correct brigade getting it removed. This film is a classic, and it is a favourite of mine.

Absolutely hilarious
If there is one movie which should never be remade it would be Blazing saddles. The jokes come thick and fast so dont nip off to the loo! Mel Brookes at his finest.

One of the greatest comedies in film history
What can I say about this movie that hasn't been said a million times before. Written and directed by the legendary Mel Brooks with additional writing from the equally legendary Richard Prior Blazing Saddles is a timeless comedy western masterpiece that ages like fine wine regardless of the current political climate we live in. An absolute must to have in any physical media movie collection.
