fantastic, engaging and enraging
I love the writing and the scenery set up. The twists and turns. The characters were an afterthought when I chose to read this series but now I'm OBSESSED. I think I'm in love with Benton Wesley

I love this book. I didn't read it. I dwelt in it.
This book by Cornwell is the most complex and heartfelt of all her books. Yes,it has all the mystery and intrigue and twists and turns that are required in a good crime novel. It's one of those that keep you reading well past midnight. But woven within is the story of love and human frailty ... and forgiveness and hope and trust ... and the strength required to live One Day At A Time while waiting for someone you love to take serious steps down the road to Recovery. I think that in this book Cornwall did what few writers of crime and forensic mystery rarely do: She wrote a fascinating, no holds barred legal thriller that is compelling right to the end, while leaving room for the flaws of even the best of humankind .... and the understanding and strength required to move past them to Recovery.

entertaining page turner
If you're new to kindle. this is the ideal book to break it in. Amazon kindle promises to create a medium which just leaves you with the words and emotions of the text. This is the first book I read on kindle, and it was an enjoyable experience. The book is lightweight crime fiction, (and I don't mean that in a dismissive sense) but I enjoyed her style of writing very much and it was definitely a page turner, with many interesting themes interwoven. It is written in the first person, very successfully, and her depth of research and engaging style was convincing and needed no leap of disbelief. It has a good ending, with an opening for other books in this Scarpetta series, and more chances for us to piece together the real Patricia Cornwell. There are no explicit sex scenes (thank god), but it is a sexy book. I want to read more of Cornwell's works, and they are all on Amazon kindle :-)

Excellent book!
Patricia Cornwell has always been my favorite author! I've read her books for many years. I had this one many years ago but lost it so I reordered it. It's full of suspense and thrills. Must read

The sense of foreboding…
…pervades this one from the first paragraph. The gloom saturates the pages & that’s a hook both masterful & atmospheric. My favorite so far.Two simultaneous plots, both deeply, believable & gripping. Lucy’s re- appearance in this one delighted me. I miss her when she’s not there. Such an interesting little prickly pear! I couldn’t help hoping for a nasty & spectacular resolution for the character who jumps up & “boos!” @ us from one of the previous Scarpetta novels. Oh well. The character I love the most from the previous books is in jeopardy, & it’s terrifying. Marino is so human in both good & bad ways, (like his idol, Kay) that the reader pulls hard for both of them.

Excellent
She doesn't write a bad book. As usual unable to put it down. I can not wait to find out who is guilty and move on to the next book.

Not the best of them but worth the read
Another great distraction......the head medical examiner for Virginia, Kay Scarpetta, is involved with the FBI and Quantico and solving a bizarre murder case. This book was not as engrossing as the others but the writing is good and I just love all the forensic detailing. Perfect escape while jet lagged and travelling........

Fifth book in the Scarpetta Series
One of my favorite books in the entire Scarpetta Series. In this book Scarpetta, FBI Agent Benton Wesley and Captain Pete Marino of the Richmond PD go to Black Mountain North Carolina to investigate the murder of 11 year old Emily Steiner. They think that Temple Brooks Gault may have been connected to Emily Steiner's death because there are similarities to the murder of Eddie Heath, but the exhumation reveals differences as well. A lot happens in this book; Scarpetta and Wesley begin their affair, Lucy joins the FBI but then a coworker, Carrie Gretham seduces her and gets her to let her make a rubber copy of her thumbprint and uses her code to access the FBI's computer and is suspended. Then while driving her aunt's car she is run off the road and suffers a head injury. Scarpetta has The Body Farm do an experiment to find out the answers in Emily Steiner's death and realizes that they have been on the wrong track and that the answer is something else entirely.

Typical magic from Cornwell
So easy to read I was surprised when it was the last page! Love the growth of all the characters, their deep, personal nuances and the fact they are so likeable and relatable.
