Q: What material is it made of?

It is nickel plated steel with a high density plastic collar, something like Delrin. The socket is machined so that it grabs the bolt on the flats only. If you keep it clean it will not mar your wheels your your fancy aluminum wheel bolts if you drive an old Porsche. I have Tikor titanium wheel bolts. They are polished and could mar easily but this socket works great.

lol... who would torque one to failure and measure?? Its well made, will accomodate any torque required to remove a lug nut.
