Brilliant
I have had proof that there are reviewers out there who are clearly writing scam reviews for other companies.I have read three on this product claiming that this unit is, poor, useless and rubbish.Nothing is further from the truth.I have been into music all my life right from my old Dansette to a unit powerful enough to run a charity outdoor disco. This unit has been bought for personal use, it is well made, easy to set up and plays brilliantly, there is no hiss on my records and they are clear and precise. The radio works perfectly so does the cd unit.As for volume, well I put on Witney's greatest hits, cranked up halfway and went into my caravan on the drive, I could still hear it clear as a bell.I didn’t make full volume, I didn’t need it.My contact with the company couldn’t have been better and the delivery was crack on time, it took me about ten minutes to set up now my wife and I are enjoying an afternoon of great music. My suggestion is, that you ignore the so called poor reviews and make your purchase, you only live once so enjoy it, and you will with this unit.Just to add, this is a British family company based in Devon (I gleaned that from their letter sent with the unit)

Great for the price.
O.K. The sound is a bit tinny, which can be improved with the Steepletone sub-woofer, apparently -or perhaps different speakers if you have them. Having said that, the sound is crisp and clear and there are 5 pre-sets for the sound - flat, clear, jazz, pop, rock, I think. It isn't going to blow the roof off your house, but then, would you want too? It is plenty loud enough for anyone with normal hearing, who wants to keep their hearing. Purists will hate it, of course, but people who just want a nice, very useful hi-fi will love it.The speakers are slim, which is great if you have limited space and the speakers need to sit either side of the unit. Mind you, they couldn't sit much further away from the unit, due to the length of the wires on the speakers - not much more than a metre.Anyway, these very minor things apart, this is a brilliant unit at a great price. If you want to play your computer MP3 files on it via data stick, you can. If you want to record your old media as MP3 files for your computer, you can. If you want to record your treasured vinyl and audio cassettes onto CD, you can. Recording onto CD or data stick is pretty simple - just read the instructions well - and for once they are clear and well written. I've wanted something for ages to copy vinyl and cassettes onto CD and my computer - now its here without first transferring everything to the computer and burning discs from there.Provided you don't want loads of bass, I would highly recommend this hi-fi. Oh, to hear those old LPs again! And by buying Steepletone, you are supporting a British business - and that's good news.I got ours from Electronic Centre, based in Ireland, and delivery seemed super quick - a week from order to delivery and four days earlier than I was expecting it. All in all, a five star product and service.

A budget hi fi system that does the job
Having only owned this system a month I haven't done everything with it yet. The prospect of being able to record from vinyl onto CD is an intriguing one. One or two small teething problems, sometimes a 45 record will stop playing before it reaches the end, though the manual will tell you how to counter that. And I'm not used to having no 'off' switch - power save merely puts it onto 'standby.' You need to switch off at the mains to disconnect the power. But for just over £300 this compact little system does the job I got it for ... happy with the purchase overall.

Do Not Buy This
Unpacked and found unit to be quite flimsy. One bracket for holding dust cover for record player was damaged. Put the whole unit together and powered on but no power, tried in different sockets but still wouldn’t power up.Contacted the company and they said it must have got a knock in transit and to send it back. Not much customer service there. All in all buy this at your peril. Not recommended

Great piece of kit.
Bought to replace a 20 year old system. This is so much better quality sound. There's much that I have not used yet as far as copying music goes, but cd, tape, and my personal favourite the vinyl record turntable are very very acceptable for the price of this unit.

Good quality machine
A very good piece of kit. Have been mostly playing vinyl and the sound is strong. A lot of things still to try but it's looking good. Very quick delivery. Had an issue with one of the cables which was sorted swiftly by a great customer service team.

OK for the price
Although on the tinny side, the sound is adequate for the price. It was improved when I fitted the larger speakers off our old system. The programming instructions are hard to follow and seem unnecessarily complicated. I was getting stuck when my wife bypassed them, pressed a few buttons and the CD seems to be working OK.

do not buy it!!
I mainly listen to the radio and unfortunatley the tuner is rubbish! the buttons on the front which you are supposed to "tap", you have to press so hard that if you if you didn"t hold it all still, you push the whole lot on the floor! I put it in my front room and will probobly never use it. However, steepltone do a smaller version called the chicago which is excellent, buy that and the extra speakers and you will have a very good, very loud system and save yourself £100 as well! hope this is useful.
