The Magical World of Strega Nona: a Treasury Hardcover – October 27, 2015

I like to check out different books. This book captured my imagination. Lovely colored drawings, sweet stories, as if witches were once part of life (they were - and are they still?). Some laugh out loud moments. I wonder about my mental age.

Adorable stories. My grandsons love Strega Nonna and who better than their own Nonna to buy it for them. Has six great stories. It is beautifully illustrated.

I have been reading Tomie dePaola's books to my children and now my grandchildren since1978. He is a wonderful creative storyteller and you can tell the stories are from his background - from his soul.This particular collection of Strega Nona stories is in a large hardcover book - like an encyclopedia with extra info from the author including a map of the settings in Italy and some recipes too. The CD, in the author's voice, is especially pleasing because he knows how to pronounce many of the special Italian words that I have heard other narrators destroy. It will help you learn how to say them yourself when you read all the other stories. The CD is only of one story in the collection. I have also bought additional individual books in the Strega Nona series because my 3 grandchildren love the stories.(ages 5, 9,and 12) I am of Italian Heritage, 3rd generation in USA so they mean so much more to me. I also love his stories about the Irish side of his family, especially the book "Nana Upstairs, Nana Downstairs" and also "Tom" about his very funny Grandpa.You will be missed Tomie de Paola. I got this after checking out the first book at the library. My child didn't want to return it. This book is wonderful and beautiful! Sturdy and a nice dust jacket included. It has extras in it like a map. It will make a great present.

Tomie DePaola is one of my favorite children's authors. I sent this set as a gift for children aged 2 through 6. It was appreciated. I would recommend buying one of his books at first to see if you like his writing style before buying a set of his books.

I grew up reading the Strega Nona books, and I was delighted to find this on a friend's shower registry. It's a great way to have all the stories at hand and much sturdier than the individual paperback books thanks to the hard cover. I think I'll get one for my nephew, too!
