The essential Champloo print resource
This is a priceless resource that every single Champloo fan should own. it has literally everything: not just the character and weapon model sheets, background art and episode synopses you'd expect in such a volume - and all of those are excellent - but a wealth of background information and detail, including the names of characters who were never called by name in the episodes, music, place and historical details, comments from dirctor Watanabe, and much more. THE Champloo reference book. We owe Dark Horse a ton of gratitude for making it available to us in English. The U.S. edition has, however, one glitch: due to some oversight in the translation and editing process, the summary for episode 8, "The Art of Altercation", was left out, with the summary for episode 10 in its place (which also appears in its correct spot two pages later). We got in touch with Dark Horse and let them know, and they were nice enough to send us a copy of the correct summary, which you can read at my Champloo website AMALGAM (Google it and click on the 'Merch' button; it's under 'Books and Manga'.)But it is a terrific book, and no joke, if you are a Champloo aficionado you can't be without it.

For the true FAN
I got my copy today and I am in love, type is a little small, I read all the critical reviews about translation issues but as a fan of the series I couldn't care less. It is a great companion book worth every penny.

Great book, awful condition
I ordered this book as a companion to "Battlecry: The Art Of Samurai Champloo", specially for the information on the production. On that sense is very complete; interview with the director, extensive information on the soundtrack, influence chart for the production, and a lot of entertaining and useful information for the fans of this show. Highly recommended. However, I must say that the book arrived in a very bad condition. Since I live in South America, it'd be a major hassle to ask for a replacement, but I'm pretty sure that the condition of the book is not a product of shipping and handling. It was heavily discounted, and it was the last one in stock, but nevertheless this was a big letdown.

If You Liked the Series You will Like this book
If You Liked the Series You will Like this book, plenty of nice art work of characters, would have liked if instead of small pictures it had larger pictures of scenes from the show. Has nice commentary section of how the show was made.

Nice, but really bad editing
The highlights of the Roman Album for me were the interviews and the information about the inspiration for some of the episodes. About half the book has a good amount of art and the other half is mainly text. The layout of the book is pretty nice overall, though most of the episode stills are quite small. The editing on the Roman Album is awful and careless. The exact same description appears for both episode 8 and episode 10. The episode descriptions are often inaccurate as well. There are numerous grammatical and spelling errors throughout the book. I would have given this a much higher rating if the editing hadn't been so bad.

worth the cost, a must for any fan
Being a huge fan of Samurai Champloo, I was glad to have found a book with a behind the scenes look at the development of the show. I was hoping to find tons of artwork, similar to what I found in "Avatar the art of the animated series" and was a little disappointed. It was wishful thinking, this book being pretty small. The bulk of the book consists of descriptions for every episode (which I found to be useless since I know the episodes) but are accompanied by screenshots, nice drawings and really cool historical facts relating to the episodes, helpful in further understanding concepts in the show that may be less familiar to fans in the West. In addition, bios are provided for the staff members and detailed info is provided on the numerous musicians contributing to the show's great soundtrack. The best parts though are the interviews with the creators and about 15 pages worth of Kazuto Nakazawa's character design sketches which are really hard to come by (in Canada anyways) detailing the numerous inspirations and how the project came to be. Though nice and well arranged,It's not a book that'll blow anyone away, but given the relatively low cost, definitely worth looking at and a must for fans of the show.
