AMAZING!
Saw this movie years ago when it first came out, but had to see it again - Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston knocked it out of the park!

Great movie!
Didn't do well at the box office. Have no idea why. Historically correct portrayal of the transition from metal to grunge and the way some metal bands used cover band singers to replace the original singer.

Good flick
Certainly a revised Judas Priest bio. I enjoyed it.

A Fair Movie - But Whatta LAME Ending!
Yes, the story of how "Chrizzy Cole" went from Tribute Band to actually replacing Bobby Beers was rather cheesy and cheap in a George Clooney way, yet it was enough to keep me entertained, enough to where I eventually wore out my VHS tape of this movie. But whatta HORRIBLE WAY they ENDED the story! So, yeah, I can totally understand Cole's getting pissed with Kirk Cudy and that other fat turd for not letting him write anything for the band. But when Chris left the band ... WHAT was THAT!!!??? The tune Chris Cole played in that coffee shop at the end was the LAMEST TUNE OF THE CENTURY! Like Syndrome said to Mr Incredible after capturing him, "But then you just had to go and RUIN the RIDE! Lame, lame, lame, LAME!" Why couldn't they have just gone and found a new style for Cole that was at least a little playable for the band and a little listenable for the rest of us? Stupid, ridiculous, poor, sloppy Hollywood writing!Woulda been much better if Cole realized that he ain't just "another clown with a guitar", but, after being in Steel Dragon, it would have been cooler had he had an epiphany or something, realized that he DID have some actual retail talent, and started DOING something with it. It would have really been cool if he had a really great new sound, something that would have ended the movie on the up and up!Friggin' sloppy Hollywood writing! You could take any script from many movies, jazz 'em up a bit with a mega-happy ending, and maybe actually TELL the STORY a bit better, and * VOILA! * Rock Star could have been one of those movies, coulda been EPIC!

Excellent Movie! Mark Wahlberg Is Always A Rockstar!
Mark Is so cute in this movie & is one of my all time fave actors! Heβs a very talented actor & singer & I thought he did this movie justice. Takes me back to my high school days in the 70s going to concerts & most of my friends back then were musicians. So it kinda hit home for me. Jennifer Aniston was a doll! She reminded me a lot of myself, so I really related to her character! LolIf youβve never watched this movie, GET IT! Itβll make ya laugh & it'll make ya cry. Loved it!

Make it real (not fantasy)
I bought this film on VHS when it first came out as no cinema near me had showed it. The film was originally going to be called 'Metal god' and was about the true story of Tim Owens but the film makers decided it was aimed at too narrow a market and came up with this story instead. It has a good storyline and basically tells us you should be yourself and not try to live your life emulating someone else. Apart from the Rainbow song 'Long live rock 'n' roll' all the songs sung by the ficticous Steel Dragon and their Tribute band are originals. To be honest although i like these songs they are a bit soft rock and commercial for the type of band Steel Dragon are meant to be. There are also rock songs on the sound track which were big hits in or around the era the film is set in. There is a scene where there is doubt about the gender of one of the bands backstage team. The Scorpions song ' He's a woman, she's a man' would have been perfect but the makers of the film probably had a limited knowledge of rock music. Even if like Mark Walhberg you don't like rock music i am sure you will like this film if you buy it.

Head banging fun.
Loosely based on the story of Tim Owens who went from being a fan to becoming lead singer of Judas Priest this is an inoffensive saunter through the world of heavy metal. The band in the film is called Steel Dragon and the film is presented as fiction not fact.Mark Wahlberg is Chris Cole the lead singer of a Steel Dragon tribute band who prides himself on his pitch perfect performance even copying his idol's English accent. His dedication to detail leads to tensions in his band who feel straitjacketed by his refusal to allow them to introduce their own songs into the act. This leads to an acrimonious split with his bandmates. Fortunately for our hero, his heroes have similar problems with their lead singer and have decided to audition for a replacement. They have noticed Cole and invite him to audition.Of course Cole aces the audition and begins to live the dream as lead singer with his heroes.Except that it turns out to be a poison chalice.Ironically Cole discovers that he is stuck in a straitjacket every bit as tight as the one he imposed on his former bandmates. He discovers that the Dragons do not play anything that doesn't fit the template of what they think their fans want. The hard rocking free loving lifestyle puts immense pressure on his relationship with his long term girlfriend and she breaks away to go and realise her own dreams.Eventually Cole decides to split from the band and go and do his own thing which is where the story ends.Wahlberg gives a confident performance as Cole. Jennifer Aniston manages not to be too Rachel-ish as his girlfriend. Timothy Spall gives the stand-out performance as the Steel Dragons' manager. The rock band lifestyle is well realised as is the attitude of the diehard fans like Cole and his friends. My only criticism is that the film is a bit of an antiseptic view of the rock world. That doesn't stop it from being an entertaining couple of hours. And that's from someone who is not a heavy metal fan.

Rock Star
Is this every man's dream - following a singer in a rock band, copying every move, dressing like him and then being offered the chance to take his place and actually be the front man in the band! However, the life soon proves a disappointment and, after realising that he is not being true to himself and the money and the groupies don't bring happiness, he also gives up the role to a doppelganger in the audience. Then, singing his own music to a much smaller audience and living a life that is his life, he gets back with the girl who he started out with, and lost. Happy ending!Fabulous film and great music - I also bought the cd.

Rock star dvd
A good romp through the world of rock 'n roll! Well depicted on the whole as it does capture the highs and lows of the times and shows the ultimate emptiness of that decadent type of lifestyle that so many rock stars think they have to subscribe too [and of course many rue that later which is not shirked in this movie!] Some good music too so quite enjoyable over all! Well worth the ridiculously low price I paid!

Great music, pretty good film
This film is suitable for anyone who is into their classic rock, featuring some great music and a very rock and roll orientated storyline. I read somewhere once that this film is based around Judas Priest, with the lead singer leaving and the band having to piece things back together. I will say no more as I don't want to give away spoilers. See for yourself! It is an acquired taste film though, as the other half was not that into it.
