New Anglican Hymns: Old & New

This gives me joy as there are hymns I'd forgotten. It's a treasure trove. Recommended for worship at home or elsewhere

This hymn book has a very good selection of traditional hymns and more modern chorus style hymns. A good very mix. The indexing for the Church Year (Lectionary) is the best of any hymn book anywhere. Check the word books in your Church are for this edition of the music book which the organist/pianist would use. The words book tells you which isbn you will need. For the more modern type songs (as opposed to hymns) you will need Songs of Fellowship. For Evangelical Churches other good hymn books might include the following: Hymns of Light and Love, Golden bells, Believer's hymn book, Redemption Hymnal and Mission Praise, and these may still be available from Abe books or Amazon. Full of memories from school singing some lovely hymns. Hoping to teach some to my son.

This would never have been my choice because of the changes Kevin Mayhew has made to the words and the music of well loved hymns making them difficult to sing without 'eyes glued' to the page. But, it is the choice of the Chaplaincy. Although it makes the book lighter to hold the quality of the paper and the binding is poor. On a positive note: the selection of hymns is good and reduces the need for several books for the old and the new.

This book was just what church members with sight problems need

This is the full music edition of the 1996 version of the book with this title. (Confusingly, there is a version of about 2006 from the same publisher and with the same title - so make sure you buy the version used in your church!) The book contains a wide variety of hymns, 571 in all, and includes a very good range of old favourites. I'm no expert on the more recent "worship songs", but there seems to be rather less coverage of those.
