very good book!
I am pregnant with my first child and am a Labor and delivery nurse. I really like how this book is broken down. It is simple, yet gives so much information!!

Great information but the author could have given nurses more credit
The nurses do the majority of the initial checks on the newborn, like jaundice, weight, oxygen levels, head circumferences, bloodwork, etc. The pediatrician does oversee everything and does a thorough assessment to make sure everything is normal BUT the pediatrician/author does not give the nurse any credit for the education and checks that THEY provide during the first 0 to 4 days of life to the newborn in the hospital. Made me so sad reading this but it is a wonderful book.

Good overall view of newborns
It’s a good overall view on the first few months of having a newborn and how to prepare. It’s missing a few details that could be wise to have in the book, but it also has amazing insights on other areas. It’s a great resource for first time parents or people who don’t have much knowledge in the subject. Would rate it a 4.3/5.

Scary for first time mothers
My mother is a nurse and my sister is a new mother so most newborn things I’m familiar and comfortable with. I bought this handbook as I’m trying to get pregnant and I want to mentally prepare myself. I purchased this book and started skimming through it the day I received it. In the very beginning of the book there is a section on SIDS and how to keep your baby safe. I understand this is a section for bringing baby home and being prepared but it genuinely scared me. I feel like it could be presented in a more gentle way perhaps at a different point in the book other than the very beginning. Returning as I don’t think this book is for me.

quick read
Easy quick read that gave me a lot of great tips for when baby arrives. Some things I didn’t know, some are common sense, but definitely worth the couple hours it took to read through

This is an overview book
This is a quick and short read. It provides some general information. But for me this book alone is far from enough. The good thing of this book is that as I’m reading it, I would want to know more details or have some more specific questions, which may be found in other books or through online searching.
