Q: Once in a while,it can not detect the metal,is it broken?

"When you can not detect the metal, it may be caused by the following problem: 1, The battery may be no electricity, you could replace the battery. 2, The distance may be too far away, the detection distance is proportional to the surface area of the metal. 3, Maybe the metal detector does not sense the magnetic field change (Its working principle is to detect the change of the magnetic field to detect the metal). So when you looking for metal, please close to the metal slowly. If these cannot solve your problem, please contact us,tell us the problem details, we will surely resolve the problem to you."

Q: Does this detect while standing or do you have to actually get down on the ground for it to first indicate the presence of metal?

You have to get down to the ground , remember it can only detect objects with in 2 inches , if you are getting close to the objects, the beeping sound will get faster , once you hit the targets, it will beeping continuously.

Q: Comparison to Garret’s pinpoint is there a big difference

Yes for sure! When I first bought the Lyman, it worked great, but after a week or so I used it in a small puddle of water not even an inch and after that , it Started working crazy! Example- I would turn it on, it would beep, then it would not stop beeping, I changed the battery, worked again and a few mins later it started beeping off again. So I got the Garrett, which has 3 different settings ! I love the Garrett pro- and would not use anything else. I do hope this helps you to make the right decision. Spend the extra , it’s worth it.

Q: Is this metal detector waterproof?

This metal detector is partial waterproof. But it comes with a waterproof bag which makes the detector fully waterproof for using underwater.
