does it laser level on a wall to hang pictures TVs straight ?

I tried to use it for that once and it didn't work out to well. I ended up measuring the distance to the ceiling in order to get it straight. Ultimatelyy when the eye falls on it it compares it to a straight line next to it which is usually the ceiling, making the ceiling a great guide to keep pictures straight

how do you connect the hand strap to the unit?

You shove the string loop through one of the holes. I had to use a paper clip to pull it through. Then stick the rest through the loop and pull it tight.

Is there a combined feet and inches mode, or in inches mode does it show feet -- e.g. for 234 inches will it show 234in, or can it show 19ft 6in?

It has a mode that purports to show feet and inches but fails to display the "tens" place of the inches display, making it look as though a 5' 11" (71") measurement is only 5' 1" (61"). It appears to show the correct length in any of the other units it supports, like total inches or decimal feet.
