My new favorite book
I visited Easter Island last month and left with more questions about the ancient civilization that lived there than when I arrived. Sooooo many things about the standard narrative just didn't add up. Like how could a population of few thousand individuals 1)develop writing, 2)develop absolutely astounding masonry skills, 3)develop and build colossal monuments, 4)forget to to read their own writing that they just invited, 5) forget their masonry and monument building skills, all the span of 500ish years? Thor Heyerdahl really does "solve" the mystery as far as I can tell, linking ancient Easter Island culture to very similar cultures in S. America. This is an incredibly entertaining and edifying read, quite literally my favorite new book and author. Can't recommend it highly enough. Enjoy! And then go visit Easter Island!

Informative Resource and Keepsake
This 2014 paperback edition is packed with information, photos, and illustrations. I have serveral books on Easter Island, but this is a valuable resource, and a favorite. There are lots of books and videos about Easter Island. After much reading and watching several movies, this book was the 'last' on my list - and a welcomed surprise! It ties everything together. You can see photos and illustrations with explanations about the island's history. If you want more than a mere overview, and are really "into" learning more, this book is for you.

Easter Island: The Mystery Solved
Good book about Easter Island. I read "AKU AKU' in high school and loved it. Apparently Thor was wrong about the migration but the book was good. This book "Easter Island: The Mystery Solved " brings things up to date. More information on Easter Island.Interesting book

This is a fantastic book. Unique images and theories you will not find anywhere else.
This is a fantastic book. The most interesting part discussed the early Easter Island statues and faces, similar to the bird images in Göbekli Tepe. Although Göbekli Tepe had not been discovered at the time the book was published, it shows an interconnection between global societies and, at the very least, bring into question the date of origin of the statues and carvings on Easter Island.

Very Interesting Even if Not 100% Accurate
Most experts disagree with Heyerdahl's theory that the Rapanui came from South America. But this is still a very interesting book. Lots of photos and very well written.
