The first book of the trilogy was okay, not great but seemingly based around a strong heroine and I had hopes that the story would improve. Book 2 got off to a better start but after about halfway there still seemed to be little or no character development happening. I was not warming to Theodosia at all and the plotline was getting wobbly with strange conversations and abrupt confessions thrown in amongst a huge amount of repetition. I persevered and got to the final book. By this point certain aspects were really beginning to grate on me. The main characters had needed to flee so many times seemingly with no luggage or possessions but Theo still managed to wander about in a nightgown, everywhere from the deck of a pirate ship to a tent in the middle of nowhere. This just became too silly for words - who on earth takes a nightgown to change into when camping in a flimsy tent and at high risk of capture from the enemy forces? Book three was a DNF, I just felt too bored by the whole thing. Two stars because it's actually well written with regard to grammar but sadly the plotline and characters are too weak for it to be worthy of more.

An avid reader, my 14 yr old granddaughter put this on her Christmas list.

I bought this trilogy instead of buying the separate books because I thought that the covers were going to come the way there advertised. But instead I spent more money and got the exact same books I could’ve bought at Barnes in noble for cheaper. False advertisement at its finest.
