Holmes 3-Speed 16-Inch Indoor/Outdoor Stand Fan, HASF1650-U

I was looking for an outdoor fan and was lucky enough to get this one for a good price from Amazon, not an outside seller. You did have to do a little assembling, nothing difficult. It is perfect for our back porch...looks great, very quiet, just enough air movement on the low setting to keep the bugs away. I find the height to be fine, especially if sitting, which on the porch we usually are, but you can of course tilt it up if necessary. There was not a remote included, even though mentioned in the description, but I really didn't need one anyway. I am very happy with this purchase.Update: Six years later sitting six feet away from this fan and enjoying the breeze. Has been left both in a shed and unprotected, looks bad but still works fine!

Unlike some happy reviewers on this fan, I had the worse experience. I purchased this fan in the beginning of July 2010 for an event at the end of the month. When it arrived, it was a "previously-opened" box. I worry when this happens and I had every right to be worried...the screw to connect the pole to the base was missing. After calling Holmes direct I figured it would be easy to get a tiny light-weight screw replacement, but that wasn't the case. Their response was "we don't have parts available as they are out of stock, but we are still manufacturing these fans and can send you a whole new fan free of charge." When I asked what is the estimated time to send a whole new fan, they told me they don't know...couldn't even tell me one month, or one year.Then I contacted Amazon and relayed the situation, which they gladly sent me another fan as a replacement and for me to return the first one free of charge but to wait until the second arrived. Well, the second one arrived and was in the same condition; previously opened and missing the same screw. I've decided to return both fans and get my money back.All in all, I feel Holmes is running a scam or at least they have lost my trust in their customer service and product reliability. Come on, a screw that couldn't be sent to me but they wanted to send a whole new fan that they couldn't give me a time-frame of availability? Makes you wonder about them.

It was easy to assemble but when I turned it on, it did not cool very much. I felt no breeze coming from the front of the fan, only from the sides. Also, the height was too low. It did not adjust to a good height. also the description said there was a remote but it did not come with one.

This fan is fairly powerful, but it's sold as an 'indoor/outdoor' fan. I am not sure I understand why they'd want to make the OUTDOOR fan with the type of metal blades that do not even have a protective coating on them. It works well, I have no complaints, but I have another one of these fans that is rated for indoor use only, and the blades on it have a coating. This one just has metal blades that just look like they are waiting to rust. However, I have had it outside all summer, (under a patio cover) and there is no rust whatsoever.What is strange to me, is the fan I bought for indoor use felt very sturdy and solid. This one was not nearly as sturdy as the indoor model, and I would have expected this one to be more durable. Also there is a cheesy 'strip' that goes around the base of the fan, but it simply will not stay on. It's not needed, and a little glue would solve that, but I've not gotten around to doing that, and every time I turn around it's falling off. It's just a rubber strip and it shouldn't need to be glued to stay on, but you should plan on doing so. It was knocked over recently and not noticed right away, and miraculously it was undamaged despite being in that position for several minutes and trying to oscillate.I can't say this fan is a 'bad' fan. It blows air, it does it well, it's fairly noisy as most seem to be, but not obnoxious. The dial is cheesy as well, and the numbers for the speeds don't actually 'line up' like you might expect (and that was before it's traumatic fall), but they do work and they do work well. So the fan has served it's purpose well. I cannot complain other than I was expecting something a little more robust for outdoor settings, not LESS than the indoor fans. However, it works well, and other than the cheesy rubber strip, which I could easily fix with a little glue if I bothered to do so, and the cheesy dial, this fan does everything you want it to do and I've been using it outside for many months now. If you're looking for something built to last and handle the elements, this might not be the one for you. It's working for me, I have no serious complaints because it BLOWS AIR AROUND, and that's what I bought it for. It will do that for you as well.

Have had this for a couple of years now. I leave it outside all the time under a gazebo. It's been rained on, snowed on, knocked over by wind several times and it keeps right on going.The one ding I have against it is that when it has fallen over, the front of the cage fan comes off. When that happens, it is a real pain to get it put back on.

We're using this fan on an outdoor deck and love it. It's well made, arrived partially assembled and went together easily. The instructions could have been better, but it still took only a few minutes to assemble. It provides a nice, oscillating breeze from several feet away and runs quietly. It has been effective at discouraging pesky mosquitoes, making it possible to enjoy coffee on the deck in the morning. We haven't had any rain to test it from that perspective, but it does what a fan should do -- a great job of moving the air.

Poor construction and poor quality.It is loud and produces no cooling benefit.DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!!!By the way Electronics Warehouse Outlet did not stand by the product and has refused to issue a refund.DO NOT BUY FROM ELECTRONICS WAREHOUSE OUTLET!!!!

Not what I expected. Maybe I should have read the information on it first. It was smaller than expected. Especially for the price I paid for it, I expected a big outdoor fan. It's real flimsy too
