What Do You Really Want for Your Children?

Great book!
I usually don't like recommending books and usually don't go for self help books either but this one is a gem for any parent. My mother gave it to me when I was pregnant with my first child (now 12 years old) and since then I have recommended it or given it to many of my friends. More than anything, this book guided me into looking into myself and looking into the motifs that make one react in one way or another. The book focuses on what are the hidden benefits that we profit from but usually are not aware of, from our own perceptions, reactions or behaviors. This in turn helps us understand them and not blame others for our own feelings, use guilt to manipulate others or redirect our anger towards others (namely our own kids). While I have yet to master all the skills from this book, they have helped me a lot in relating to my kids and given me pointers on how to react in different situations. The book gives many examples of everyday behaviors of our children and offers alternative ways of reacting and responding to them.It a great book to have in your bedside table and re-read it as you find yourself facing new stages in your children development.

Quite insightful
Being the father of three children, I enjoyed reading this book. This book helped me to see many of the negative parenting patterns that years of conditioning had created in my ego. The number one thing that I walked away with was the understanding that my children have to make their own lives (with my wife's and my guidance, of course), and that it is not my place to control them. Wayne also provides ways to help you see yourself and then how to correct any negative traits you possess concerning parenting. While I may not agree 100% with every idea he has regarding parenting, I would say I agree 90% (now that I've read it). I have seen many of my fallacies and have seen how they have affected and will affect my children negatively; I have seen how to change those ways also, thanks to this book.I believe EVERY parent should read this book, and I've given it to new parents and have recommended it to others. No matter how old your children are, Wayne has written this book for you, now. It's never too late to correct your mistakes and help your children grow to be mature, responsible, creative, limitless adults, and Wayne stresses that in this book. I believe you will appreciate it, therefore, I highly recommend it.

This book is not just about parenting
I think this book is really about what we want for OURSELVES. All parents want the BEST for their kids but they rarely apply it to themselves. This book teaches you how to model the most healthy, sane and life-affirming behavior and attitudes so your children will learn these attitudes. The only way to effectively model this behavior is to actually become this kind of person ourselves. It requires an open mind toward one's own behavior, thoughts and beliefs. Here are the chapter headings:"I want my children to value themselvesI want my children to be risk-takersI want my children to be self-reliantI want my children to be free from stress and anxietyI want my children to have peaceful livesI want my children to celebrate their present momentsI want my children to experience a lifetime of wellnessI want my children to be creativeI want my children to fulfill their higher needs and to feel a sense of purpose"Don't you want to live this way too? I know I do.

Good read.
Love the info and ideas. Seems like a massive book, but if you bite off small chunks (I aim for 25 pages a day) it isn't too bad. The sections read quick, and can be split up easily with the subheadings within each chapter.Crazy to believe the paperback cost me ~$10 as I think it will make me a significantly better parent and person moving forward.

Best children's book ever
Best children's book ever! Anything you can find by Wayne W. Dyer is great life coaching! He's actually saved my life and helped me evolve as a human being AND a parent! All teachers, parents, relatives, anyone involved with caring for children can benefit from this book! So sad that he has died. I will keep his memory alive as long as I'm alive by sharing his work and giving great reviews. His work on PBS has been tremendous! He is gone too soon.

Really great book
There's nothing else like this guide to raising a happy child, and it's a super-valuable read for any parents or anyone who influences children. It's easy to read, also, set up with lots of subheadings to provide focused help for specific things you want for your children.

I was delighted to read this book and discover that I am ...
I have to confess right here that I am a big fan of Wayne Dyer so excuse my bias opinion right here but also know that this book hits it right on the head if you're looking for a parenting book different to all the rest. Not being a pushy parent myself, I was delighted to read this book and discover that I am still doing an ok job - letting my children go for what they want in life and not what I may want for them in life. In short, this book encourages us to take a step back, acknowledge the gifts our children have and assist them in finding their way in life without stressing over the choices they make. So many crazy people out there over-scheduling their childrens lives that it's nice to find a book where it's not all pushing and shoving your child down a certain route but rather about accepting them for who they are and allowing their life to unfold without micro managing it all for them. PS - if you are a pushy parent - move on, there is nothing for you to see here.

Excellent book for parents
I recommend this book to all parents who want to help their children live happy healthy successful lives. The book teaches the parents to lead by example and to lift their attitudes towards life also. The book is fairly long, so bit of discipline is involved in finishing it. Commuting to reading at ten to twenty pages a day is a good way to get through any book

One of the best parenting books ever written.
One of the best parenting books ever to be written. Full of helpful advice which you can apply to everyday life as you get older so this book is brilliant in so many ways. Dr Dyer was an excellent author & a wonderful person he will be missed but he lives on within the hearts of many as his books & advice have given so many people hope & peacde of mind.
