Caused a nitrogen deficiency
I used Pro Bloom on my hydroponic plants for two weeks at the levels instructed. I noticed that my fruiting strawberry plants were starting to show signs of nitrogen deficiency. I'd thought the 2-3-5 ratio was a bit low on nitrogen when I bought the Pro Bloom, but I figured these people were the experts and I'm still new at hydroponic gardening. The bottle label said that I needed to use their Botanicare CAL-MAG Plus (at 5 ml/1 tsp per gallon of water) if I used distilled or reverse osmosis water, but I just use tap water with the chlorine filtered out. Looking more closely, though, I can see that the Cal-Mag has a 2-0-0 ratio, and that you're supposed to use Cal-Mag or a nitrogen fertilizer to supplement the Pro Bloom and Pro Grow to the level of nitrogen needed by your specific plants. This doesn't really help me since I also discovered that strawberries like 5-5-5 or 10-10-10.The Pro Bloom application rates are 20 ml (for a week) or 25 ml (for the next two weeks) per gallon of water. The quart bottle contains 960 ml of fertilizer. At the price I purchased the Pro Bloom, that's $0.41 or $0.51 per gallon of water per week, plus the Cal-Mag $0.10 per gallon per week fertilizer cost, which makes it more expensive than I'd thought.I liked that the Pro Bloom doesn't smell bad and is mostly organic, but it doesn't work for my needs. It also turned out to be more expensive than I'd expected, partly because it's apparently not a complete fertilizer in itself.
