It was easy to use and elegant
Back in 2018, we got this official Amazon leather case for my wife's kindle, it actually came bundled with the kindle, which was great because we were looking for something that felt a bit more premium and was obviously a perfect fit. And honestly, it's was fantastic all these years and really lived up to what we expected from an official accessory. We really loved the feel of that genuine leather, it's just got a nice, quality touch, kind of like holding a real book, and it’s held up pretty well, it fitted her kindle perfectly, and that magnetic auto wake/sleep feature was a champ, never missed a beat, it did a solid job protecting the Kindle from everyday scratches and the occasional minor bump, and it added protection without making the Kindle bulky, which is great. It really feelt like it was worth it, especially as part of the bundle.

Excellent case, color different than photos
My favorite part about this case is the automatic on/off feature that is activated by the cover- it may seem like a small thing, but it revolutionizes Kindle reading for me because it makes it more like a book- instead of having to press a button when you start or finish, you just open or close the cover as you would with a book. Very effortless. This case fits the Kindle Paperwhite absolutely perfectly- in fact, it's such a great fit that it's a bit difficult to get on and off. For that reason, don't expect this to be an "easy on-easy off" case: if you're the type of person who likes to switch out cases for different occasions then this is probably not the case for you.Just so that you know what you're getting, the front and back of this case are leather, and the shell that goes around the sides of the Kindle (and frames the front of the Kindle is some kind of plastic material that is very firm, yet with a finish that is soft and grippy to the skin, not slippery like polycarbonate. The shell also goes around the back of the Kindle, but it is covered by leather there. The case DOES add significant weight to the Kindle- that doesn't bother me, as my hands/wrists acclimated to the extra weight within one to two readings. However, I would be concerned about the extra weight for anyone who had arthritis or other conditions that are aggravated by extra use of the hands. Some reviewers have complained that the case is not conducive to one-handed reading because the front cover does not easily fold all the way to the back of the case,, but I disagree. I find the case works very nicely for one-handed reading if you leave the cover open and balance the front and back cover between your fingers/palm, as you would with a book. Some have complained that the metal Kindle tab on the cover irritates their finger, but I have not experienced that at all.I bought the persimmon case, and it does NOT look like the color in the pictures. It is a much brighter red, not a muted orange-red like in the stock photos and customer photos. At first I was put off by how bright it was, but it grew on me and I decided not to return it. Now I'm glad I have this color, because it stands out really easily on a cluttered desk or countertop, so I never lose it. I was also concerned that the red trim that borders the front of the Kindle would be distracting when I read, but my brain quickly learned to ignore it, so now I don't get distracted by the bright color at all when I'm reading.All-in-all, I would highly recommend this case.

Worth every penny
I live overseas in Germany with my husband who is proudly serving our country in the U.S. Army. I had to buy my Paperwhite at the electronics store here on post because Amazon will not ship Kindles to Americans living overseas (but they will ship to our electronics store which is overseas...I know, figure that one out!) Our electronics store had plenty of covers for tablets and readers, but none that had all of the features I wanted in one cover. Most of them had those annoying elastic bands that barely fit over the corners of the readers and they were either too large or too small. So I went back to the website and lo and behold, they had the Amazon Kindle Leather Cover specially designed to hold Paperwhites only, which to me means a perfect fit. It was quite a bit more expensive than the other covers I had looked at, but I was willing to take the risk with all the features it had listed and I figured I could return it if I wasn't happy as Amazon Customer Service is amazing in that regard. I held my breath as I ordered, waiting for the red message to pop up telling me they can't ship it to my APO (this happens alot), and miraculously it went through! There was joy. Seriously. Anyway, my cover came pretty quickly considering we have snail mail over here, within two weeks.Flash forward six months later to present day, and I have to say that it's one of the few purchases I have made where I can honestly say that I am so glad I spent the extra money. This cover IS the perfect fit for my Paperwhite. My Kindle pops into it easily and just as easily pops out again (following the directions that Amazon provides with the cover of course). It NEVER pops out on its own, even when I have accidentally dropped it a couple of times, probably due to the perfectly molded hard shell frame that my Kindle locks into. When I close the front cover, it automatically sends my Kindle into sleep mode, just as it should. I have spilled coffee, water and wine on my cover and have accidentally placed it in a puddle of honey that one of my kids left on the counter during breakfast. With a moist sponge, my leather cover wipes completely clean every single time without warping or staining. Six months of "aggressive love" and my cover STILL looks brand new. No tears or scratches either. The bonus? It comes in so many colors you can definitely personalize it to you. I rock a purple one.So, if you are going to invest in a Kindle, I definitely suggest spending the extra money to protect your investment. Not sure if they make this same cover for the other Kindle models, but it would definitely be worth checking out. Now if I could only get Amazon to ship me the Paperwhite skin that I want (que annoying red message)......Update: January 28, 2018 Flash forward five years later... I am about to replace my Kindle Paperwhite cover for the FIRST time. My original one lasted me almost five years and I am very ashamed to say that I was quite abusive towards it. I have dropped it so many times, spilled so many different medias on it, left it out in the rain (and snow), left it in the not so tender care of a five and three year old (who finally figured out that slamming it on the table does not open it), and have sat and laid down on it probably every other day it has coexisted with me and it is just NOW starting to come apart. My Paperwhite is still just fine, thanks to the sacrifices made by my Amazon Paperwhite cover. That is how good this product is and I can't recommend it enough. If it wouldn't melt all over my BBQ grill, I would give it an honorable Texas burial by fire, complete with beer and soft, kind words about how great it was. Worth. Every. Penny.
