A Caress of Twilight (A Merry Gentry Novel Book 2)

Poor, exhausted Merry
A Caress of Twilight follows Merry Gentry and her gaggle of hunky man meat through another combination of twisted sidhe court politics and supernatural detective adventure. No, the queen’s disposition hasn’t improved. Yes, Merry gets plenty of action from her sexy, brooding, conflicted boy toys. And most of it happens from the confines of her kinky—er, dinky one-bedroom apartment, a.k.a. Grand Central Station thanks to the fey ability to use any normal mirror as a communication device without announcing themselves.Merry is learning that tough decisions are required of an aspiring candidate for the Unseelie Court throne. Her suitors are there to guide her, of course, providing wisdom between banging sessions, where each are racing to see who can make her pregnant first and become king by Merry’s side. It’s a hard job (yes, I said it), but someone has to do it, and who better than a cast of ungodly (or in some cases, godly) gorgeous men who’ve been sexually repressed for the last thousand years? It’s no wonder most of the story occurs within her apartment, because I don’t think the poor girl could walk if she wanted to.The story starts and stops, which is fine because in between we learn more about her suitors: Darkness Doyle, Green Galen, Perma Frost, Little Kitto, Unrifled Rhys, and a new micro suitor that I won’t spoil for you. We also learn more about Merry, her past, and the depth of her powers, setting her up to be a formidable queen indeed. All in all, if you liked the first book in the series, you won’t be disappointed with this one, if only sympathetically exhausted for the protagonist.

A Caress of Twilight
Merry has the men to try to get pregnant and yet she has not. She has done a fertility spell for another Fey who was cast out from the Seelie Court for dissatisfying the king but still Merry is not pregnant. What can she do? Unfortunately a magical creature is after the cast out fey and Merry must save her and everyone who comes in contact with it. How can she do so much and save everyone who matters? How can she be safe herself? She must figure out how to save everyone before it becomes too late.

Eventful story
Merry is back working for the Grey Detective Agency in L.A. along with some of her guards. Her one bedroom apartment is too small for the five guards plus Kitto, the small snake goblin she's taken on for six months in order to have the goblins as allies. It's difficult to find a place they can afford for so many people.Maeve Reed, a prominent Hollywood actress for fifty years and a former goddess of the Seelie Court, wants a favor from Merry, which she'll only agree to if Maeve will share the secret to why she was banished, and the reason could rock the balance of power.Politics and the mystery of what has been unleashed by the sidhe and how to stop it take up the majority of this second story. Merry has to negotiate with the demi-fey, a number of members from the Seelie Court as well as her aunt. Each of the different courts and types of fey has their own cultures and rules. And because she's trying to get pregnant and keep all of the guards--who'd been forced to be celibate under their queen--happy, sex is a common activity. Sex with Doyle for the first time is especially eventful.Action, humor, mystery, politics and sex round out this story that fit a number of genres. We learn more about the guards and the world of the fey. A great job at character and world building.

Great work
Ok, book #2 in the Merry Gentry series!I still am a little hesitant with this series, just because I see some seriously mixed reviews. Between my Goodreads friends, real-life friends, and other bloggers...there really is no consistency. That being said...I really did like the second book.I felt more comfortable in A Caress of Twilight than I did in A Kiss of Shadows, mostly because the main characters we've finally met and gotten to know more as well as the life of being a sidhe.I've read fantasy books before that revolve around the fae (mostly Karen Marie Moning's Fever series), so I understood most of it. But the first book did have a lot of important information that I probably didn't pay enough attention to, but now I understand a whole lot more after reading this book.Ok...So, Merry is back in LA with all of her guards/lovers. We have Frost (yum), Doyle, Galen, Rhys, Nicca, and Kitto (not a guard but more 'pet'). She is having her fun romps on the sacks with all so far except Doyle and Galen...both for very different reasons. Though, in this book we finally get to the bottom of what's going on with Galen as well as some unexpected turn of events in the sack for our little Miss. Meredith.Merry and the boys have had to take a step back from the PI business because of the bad stuff going down with the Nameless and some crazy group deaths. Lots of time for plotting and planning without having to go into work for now, huh?! Or maybe, just some extra time for some lovin...yea, not so much really. LOLWe still have our little humor bits here and there, and we even having feelings of love floating in the air.Merry is definitely a very special heroine. She is very educated and knowledgeable about the faerie life and those that live in it. I love her brain and her personality! Dare I think I like her more than Anita Blake.....no....not yet, but she's could be in the running!Great book. Laurell K. Hamilton did another great job!

She loved Frost as well as Galen but it seemed like ...
3.5 starsThe story continued right after the first book. The aspect of Meredith slept with the guards to get pregnant weird me out a little. This was the first time I ever read a plot where a heroine was some kind of polygamy. She loved Frost as well as Galen but it seemed like Doyle was the one that proper for a king. And now that Rhys got his power back and changed, I wonder if his personality going to change much.I enjoyed the book but sometimes some chapters contained too much of information. I can’t put my fingers on but I felt almost bored sometimes.Anyway I’m going to read the next book right away.

I can't get enough of these books..........
so I have already purchased No. 3 and No. 4.In this book, Merry and her bodyguards are asked by a famous actress to assist her. Maeve Reed is a Seelie noble in exile from both Courts. She knows something about King Taranis of the Seelie Court which if was leaked could cause either a war between the Courts or her death. Taranis is Merry's Uncle.Whilst Merry is still not pregnant she is still working at her Detective Agency. Suddenly a call comes in that a massacre has taken place and then another and another. Who is killing both humans and sidhe? The answer is the 'Nameless'. A thing made up of all the magic that the Ravens and Old Gods once lost. How on earth do you kill something you can't see? The 'Nameless' is after Maeve and probably sent by King Taranis to ensure her silence. Also how did the'Nameless' break through the wards of Maeve's property? Once it has been killed, odd things start to happen to Merry's Guards..........It is down to Merry and her Guards to kill this abomination before it kills all of them and goes on to kill indiscriminately.Merry has also made an alliance with the Goblins for six months in exchange for her blood or her having sex with one of them. The Goblin King, Kurag, sends her Kitto who turns out to be afraid of his own shadow and is terrified of the Unseelie lovers that Merry beds. Merry also makes a deal with Niceven so that she can get the cure for Galen.I am now reading book 3 and looking forward to it just as much as books 1 and 2.

Was very very slow till the last 2-3 chapters
This book was very very slow, it wasn’t till the last 2 or 3 chapters that it actually got to where it was heading. Was a bit disappointed as I binge read all Anita Blake, but the price for these books are exceptionally high compared to Anita Blake and so much slower. I would happily pay the price of this book for Anita Blake but not happy with the pricing for this book.I still want to know what the princess is all about so I guess it has done its job in wanting to know more, but it was painfully slow.
