Compact yet powerful filter that can be reversed to fully utilize ALL of the active carbon
I gotta rave about this filter. I read into filters pretty thoroughly before buying and have been using Carbon Filters with inline fans for years to get rid of strong smells. The last one I had before replacing it with this filter measured 22 inches long so this filter is a baby compared to it. The last filter was rated for 475CFM while this one is supposed to be 400CFM. My 6 inch inline fan is 435CFM but I run it on a fan speed controller. Filter came boxed up great in a plain cardboard box that said it was from china but didn't describe the contents (thankfully). Great packaging to keep it safe and keep any carbon from making a mess once you open it. CAUTION: OPEN OUTSIDE so you don't make a mess you regret inside. There wasn't really that much dust but i did tilt it around carefully not shaking it but just making sure it got anything that was loose off before hooking it up. Once it was hooked up to my 6inch inline fan via 6inch flex ducting I turned it on about 90% of the way with my fan controller. Not much carbon came out so I was happy. This filter seems to have a very generous amount of active carbon packed inside it because I smell absolutely nothing. It's not restricting my fan any more than the old, much longer filter i previously had. This thing filters out completely all the smell from what I can tell. Even smoke is cleaned out of the air. Works great suspended in the air sideways or sitting on something standing up. It is also reversible so after 3-4 months of heavy use I plan on taking the bottom off and reversing the top and bottom so all of the active carbon gets utilized before it has to be replaced. Most filters are riveted so that you can't do this. Also note this filter comes with a prefilter that must be stretched over the filter so bigger particles of dust don't get sucked up into the carbon blocking air flow off. You NEED to clean this thing about once a month in hot water to rinse the junk out so the filter doesn't prematurely go out. Takes literally 5 minutes at most to do.

Works Great and the Price is right!
This is the first filter I've purchased so i dont have much to compare to, but it does exactly what I need it too. I have it in a small (4'x8') indoor grow room hooked up to a 6 inch inline fan that pulls a max of approx 500 cfm. The fan isn't even on 50% and there is absolutely no smell outside the room or the house. I even put my nose to the exhaust vent and couldn't smell anything. Like I said, I may not have a lot to compare to, but this filter filled all my needs and more. I did also buy some prefilter material and wrapped the outside. I'm not sure if this was necessary or not, I haven't tried it without. As far as life expectancy goes, I've only been using it for a few months and I'm not sure how long it will last. As of now, I see no signs that it's wearing out or in need of replacement. The prefilter is starting to collect some dust and inlay replace thsr

Nice filter
Works very good and does exactly what it's supossed too. As others have stated, be sure to check the size measurements, this unit is prolly bigger then you think it is. The missing star is for its price. For what it is and the materials used, I can't really see why this costs so much. This comment is directed at filters in general and NOT this particular brand. I would remove 1 star from ANY filter in this price range or above it, (regardless of brand or manufacturer) for this reason alone, so this is not a specific indication of how this particular brand or item performs. That being said, it arrived on time and in good shape. This was a solid purchase and a solid product. Would buy again.

Got 1 year of solid use and still another year of it performing around 60 percent. Great lil filter.
Odor elimination lasted about 12-14 months removed the endcaps and switched them around and odor reduction lasted another 6 months, I put the filter in a metal barel and lit a hot coal fire under it, it released a ton of smell and was good for yet an additional 6 months using both sides, on daily use in dusty conditions. After over 2 years i could not recharge it by heating it above 500 degrees. Ordered again, so far zero odor, running 24/7. Make sure you shake it out and its not pointing in the direction of anything white,as some fine carbon dust shoots out the fan for first minute or so which happens with most of these type of filters. Works best with an inline fan, the white cloth dust cover it come with helps preserve the carbon's life so use it.

Perfect size for 10X10 grow tent
Does a GREAT job at deodorizing. Easy to place in tent (I put it up high to extract heat also) I used a bungie basket and hung it on a support bar with a Vortex fan (the big one with a 6 inch intake that mated PERFECTLY without any special material needed). Look here on Amazon for both. People complained it is big....Please look at the dimensions before complaining. Clearly stated 17 x 10.5 x 10.5 inches ; 11 pounds. I know the 6 inch part confused some but that is the intake hole. I blew mine out outside although mine produced NO dust....maybe others had bad luck. Looks like it would be easy to refill and charcoal is cheap. I am sucking air through this and exhausting it directly outside into the room. In the summer I used to get a piece of plywood and cut it into the size of the window lifted about 8 inches and mounted a dryer vent on the outside to keep out insects and birds when the fan was off. I painted the outside white and you could barely notice it from the outside. I put a cut piece of wood to block as a jam for the top of the window so it could not be opened from the outside. I also had a portable air conditioner with it's exhaust mounted on the same piece of wood and another dryer vent. The vortex fan I got is about 15-20 lbs so the total weight is 30ish. If you plan on doing what I am doing then buy some corner replacements for your tent. NONE of the tents come with good corner pieces. they are cheap to replace, I bought mine from eBay but they're becoming more common. If you don't they will break under this load especially if you have mounted lights in there too.

It's big. It works. Reversible ends seem like a great idea! Be careful removing it from it's box as the prefilter is loosely attached to the canister (in a ziploc) and I almost threw it out with the packaging. That said prefilter fits snugly and properly. It's a filter, it filters! Edit on 04/04/2018 I've had this filter two years of near continuous use. After one year I unscrewed the end caps and swapped them, all good for a second year. Here we are now and I've bought an identical replacement which I will swap in place of the old one. As for the old filter, I am now, after acquiring another duct fan, going to put this in my garage where I smoke and use it to filter out the smoke. So I am going to get more than the advertised two years out of this filter. Not all iPower products are the same (the duct fan I bought is theirs and it's iffy), these filters get my A++

I've only had this for a few weeks but it has done the job so far. Hopefully it will last a few cycles but time will tell. Unit was packed nice, and the pre filter cover fit on without hassle. I probably could have just got a 4 inch filter but decided to go 6 for increased airflow. I use a ac infinity 6inch inline fan and have it set around half speed and it keeps the noise to a manageable level. Next time I will get a higher powered fan and run it on even lower settings as this increases efficiency and reduces noise.
