Great home lab power supply
I am a hobby tinkerer, and my purposes don't warrant an expensive power supply. I have not had one issue with this power supply. It's simple to use and is reliable. The device is well manufactured and feature equipped for it's cost.

Display burns out: can't be used for long experiments
I bought six of these for the lab that I run, and was really happy with them at first. However, after leaving one powered on for a week or two (which is normal and necessary for the experiments we do), the display burned out. This is the first time I've seen that happen on a bench instrument. And honestly, I think it's the first time I've seen it happen on anything newer than a Game Boy Color. So I'm stuck one unit that has an illegible display and five more that I can't use for long term experiments.Attached photo shows the unit with the burned out display (right), beside an undamaged unit (left).

Works Great
It's a Rigol! It works as expected, and well worth the price.

Rigol DP712: Good 50V 3A power supply that is annoying to use, especially above 35V.
I have a couple of Owon power supplies and I love them. When I was searching for a 50V 3A supply, I somehow missed the Owon P4603 because it is a 60V 3A supply.I ended up buying the Rigol DP712, but not from Amazon because I needed it sooner. I am using it at 40V. Unfortunately, and not described in the manual anywhere, the DP712 will not power on above 35V unless you respond to the pop-up safety warning message (left arrow, then the OK button). Every time! This user interface was designed by the lawyers, not by engineers. My Owon power supplies remember the last settings at power up. Rigol DP712 does not. It does allow settings to be saved and recalled. Get ready for a lot of button pushing just the save and recall the same setting you used every time. To power up at the last setting (assuming you have saved it), you must:(1) press memory, (2) arrow click or knob spin to the memory location, (3) press enter, (4) arrow over to "read", (5) press enter, (6) press memory again, (7) press "on" to turn on the voltage, (8) respond to the warning pop-up with a left arrow press, (9) press OK. None of this nonsense with my Owon power supplies.I'm testing a circuit that sometimes misbehaves and needs to be shut down quickly. With DP712 > 35V, I have to press OK to turn the voltage on, then find the On/Off button quickly to shut down. This requires taking may gaze off of the measurement equipment I am trying to watch to jump from OK on the right to On/Off on the left, or use two hands. I basically hate it.I like the fine resolution for setting voltage and current. The current limit works nicely. Have have accidentally shorted the output a couple of times, and it recovers just fine. The DP712 apparently has built-in timer functions. Half the manual describes timer functions. I have no ideal why I would want timer functions in my power supply. I just want the On/Off button to turn the voltage On and Off.The display on the left is dim gray on a dark gray background, and hard for me to see.About the 6th time I turned on the DP712, it woke up thinking it was the 30V model and refused to go to 40V. It messed up my stored 40V 1.5A memory setting. I shut it down and powered back up and it was OK. I had to redo the 40V 1.5A memory register. I hope this doesn't happen often.I already had a larger supply for 40V, but I thought I would treat myself to a nice little Rigol DP712 after reading how wonder Rigol test equipment is. My Owon supplies were a real treat when I got them. This thing is not. The Rigol does have nice bumper guards on the corners, so it probably won't even hurt it when I throw it across the room.
