Informative Tanning
This book sticks to the point. It talks almost exclusively about tanning and hide treatment, preparation and removal. Most of the methods are repeatable. But Going over each type of animal and skin you may run into helps expand your horizons and possible projects. Not alot of illustrations considering the task at hand. Worth the money for someone who will actual read it and not just want pictures. Reviewed by The Goat Farmer, not Little Miss his wife.

The DIY tanning gospel
I have used the tanning methods used in this book for several years now and have had satisfaction with all of the methods I have used. If you are looking for a book from which you can learn to tan hides, this is it. If I wore to make any additions, I would have added an appendix which would have had the recipes for each method like in a cookbook. This is a great book.

Cant wait to put these easy instructions into practice!
This book is full of easy to follow instructions and pictures. They also go over different types of tanning, like how to tan and keep the fur on or tan to just get the smooth leather. And they go over how to skin different sized animals along with diagrams on where to cut. I really enjoyed this book and I cant wait to try out what I've learned. I'll let you know how they turn out in a later review if I can remember to post about it again.

Good book on modern methods using synthetic chemicals
Good book on modern methods using synthetic chemicals. Disappointed on primitive techniques which is why I bought the book. Very brief primtive section otherwise a fine book.

tanning animal skins
This book is old but contains extremely useful information. I had a deer skin that was dried in my barn for over a year and have begun to rework it. I am still in the process but have found the receipe information to be extremely useful. The book contains information and tips on animals from across the US and how to skin, prep, season, and tan the skins/furs. Definitely a book to use for processing skins.

Not For Beginners
Hailed as an all you need to know to get started, I found this book an American Style Learning curve, ie "Do as I tell you but understand nothing". If you can acquire the chemicals and skins and follow the precise instructions for each 'Project' I'm sure that's fine, but personally I prefer to 'understand why' something is to be done a certain way and this book is certainly short of explanations. I can't recommend it. You'd probably do better on a trial and error basis using say 'Clan Of The Cave Bear' as a rough guide. Sorry Mr Churchill, I think you need to rewrite it.
