End glowing efficient transmission
I'm using this as a series of 30 small 'light-pipe" indicators on a control panel. The panel is 5mm perspex and the filament end sits flush with the front face through a 2mm hole. The light sources are a couple of rows of individual addressable "neopixel" RGB LEDs with a 3D printed receptical to hold the filament in the optimum position on the LED inside the enclosure. This allows any indicator to be any colour, and flash and fade using an Arduino micro-controller. The typical distance is 10 cm. The light transmission is surprisingly efficient even over a long length. It's much better than the side emitting filaments I've used, even when bent quite tightly. It's brittle so I bend using a hot air gun around a former. It sticks well using superglue and can easily support it's own weight over 20cm, especially when fixed at both ends. Just the job.
