Q: Why is the metal so dark? looks poisonous? should be clean and shiny?

Because of hard anodizing technology which make it looks dark but its surface more hard, then it will REAL Never Get Stuck. Don't worry, it's made of 6061 food grade Aluminum.

It was a mistake it was too large for my press

This does not stay on the puck durring use and depending on many variables in regards to your material, quality amount etc entails the answer question and you can have overkill damnage your yield.

Q: Can this be heated up via transfer from my heat press & presses to make small amounts of hash?

I know this is old, but hopefully my answer can help someone else. If you keep the pressure to a minimum, no more than enough to assure even contact, it will work just fine, and will not ruin your press as long as some common sense is used. Just make sure your mold is clean, and scratch free. When putting it into your press, I'd suggest a layer of parchment above and below the mold so it never contacts the metal from your press. Set your heat, GENTLY apply pressure to your mold, and wait as long as your recipe calls for.
