An amazing buy. A Wooden Camera design knock-off, but adds much more value for a lot less.
Excellent buy. I am sad that this is simply a copy of the Wooden Camera "director's Monitor Cage,' and that I paid for it knowing this. However, not only is this the equivalent (and the machining is excellent, so I doubt that Wooden Camera's unit is much or any better), but this one actually includes the Sony V-Mount backing plate (Wooden Camera sells these separately for an additional $140.00) as well, for about 1/2 the price! Extremely impressed by this! The Wooden Camera version would cost 439.95 for what you get here for only $150.00 (which includes shipping to the U.S.). Amazing!Be sure to place the plastic washers between both metal parts (between bolt heads and the cage, and one piece of the cage and another), or these cages literally 'fall apart.' There was a complaint on the B&H site about the WC Director's Cage about this, and the reviewer gave WC only 1 star. Well, I don'y know if WC has come up with the same solution (or, whether this person simply did not put the washers sin place correctly), but the rather minimal instruction sheet for the Proaim director's cage fails to mention that this is how to mount the plastic washers. It includes plenty (more than enough) of them for the job, but no mention, and no illustrated placement either. Probably they these AFTER the negative reports on the B&H site of the WC units. Only guessing, but what matter is they solved the problem. Mine hasn't 'fallen apart' with those washers in place. Initially (because there was nothing showing their placement) I left most of the off, and I had the same problem that the Wooden Camera report suggested. Adding the washers makes ALL the difference!I will eventually upgrade these, however, the washers are only ABs and therefor brittle, and will probably eventually show stress cracks and fail. I will find some hard rubber washers to do the job.

It's okay, but leaves a lot ot be desired.
This is a tough review to write. On one hand, this director monitors cage does what it needs to do, and does so without breaking the bank--this is a carbon copy of a much more expensive Wooden Camera Cage, and appears to be identical in appearance and build quality.Unfortunately, that build quality is not very well thought out. All the pieces of the frame and back battery plate come unnassembled and are to be assembled to the specs of your monitor--pretty simple, straight forward erector-set-like construction with screws and plastic washers. However the cage once assembled with the washers and the monitor inside is rather flimsy and tightening it to the proper tightness seems to crack the cheap plastic washers that are meant to brace friction and prevent the cage from falling apart. We had an atomos shogun in the cage, vlock battery, and teradek wireless transmittor. The director was loving the cage until it fell apart in his hands which then took another 5-10 minutes to put it back together.Simply put, this cage just barely gets the job done--i'd look for something sturdier and nicer if you can afford it.

Great alternative to WC product.
Great cage. It appears as if it is an exact replica of Wooden Camera's director cage. As others have mentioned the design flaws with these types of cages is the integrity of the joints. I went ahead and not only placed the plastic washers between parts but also added metal lock washers. I will also take it a step further in the future and add locktite to go the extra mile. I used it on one shoot so far and I am very satisfied. Held up better than I expected. The included v-mount plate is also an added bonus.

Excellent Value Director's Monitor Cage - with one caveat
I use the Proaim director's cage with both an Atomos Ninja Assassin and with an Aputure FineHD VS-2 monitor. I find it quick to adjust the director's cage for the two monitors, but totally agree with the other reviewers who point out that the cage can become loose with the hex screws and plastic washers that ship with the kit. Locktite would not work for me since I need to change between the two monitors, so I went with 1/4" metal lockwashers. The rig can be nicely 'locked' down with the lockwashers, but is easily loosened to adjust for the monitor changes. And while I was at it, I decided to replace the silver hex screws with black hex screws (and the lockwashers are also black) ordered from Fastenal International, a supplier that will ship small quantities (unlike other suppliers that only ship in bulk). I ended up ordering three sizes of hex screws: 1/4-20x1/2", 1/4-20x3/8" and 1/4-2x5/8" which gives you more options when mounting items onto the cage. Oh, and I ordered 1/4-20x2" hex screws for the mounting of the battery plate. The "all black" appearance looks great, and I ordered extras in all the sizes so I'll have them when adding on other items to the cage. Cost was about $21.

I will save us both time by not pointing out all the ways it sucks, just know that it sucks
This is the biggest POS in the world! I have spent more than an hour putting this together and it just doesn't work. I will save us both time by not pointing out all the ways it sucks, just know that it sucks. I really really suck!

Good: It's the identical cage to the way overpriced ...
Good: It's the identical cage to the way overpriced WoodenCamera version (seriously identical I think it's made in the same factory)Bad: The Allen/Hex key screws come undone frequently and then the whole thing becomes flimsy. Save yourself the headache and frustration by lining everything up perfectly assembled then using Locktite or similar to ensure the screws done come loose.
